Sell your home by owner or through a realtor?

We have been recently thinking of selling our home and am not sure which way to do it, by owner or through a realty office? I understand that the realty office gets 5% of what they sell your home for, and to me, that is a good chunk of change. On the flip side, is it worth it? I know if we sell by owner we'll have to get a lawyer as well, so which way is the way to go?
