I've been thinking about buying a rice cooker for quite some time now. The problem is that I know nothing about them. Now I know that you can get ones that can do some pretty fancy things, but I really just want a rice cooker that will cook lots of varieties of rice without being too expensive. It does not have to stay on to keep rice warm for long periods of time, but that would certainly be a bonus.
So basically what I'm asking is, can anyone reccomend a good rice cooker that is reasonably priced and easy to find?

I had a rice cooker in college (sadly, I'm not sure what hapened to it). I believe it was a Rival, like the above poster mentioned. It was pretty affordable (I was in college after all). I remember it working really well, and being a total lifesaver when dinner in the dining hall was especially nasty. Sometimes if left on for too long, some rice would kinda brown at the bottom and get crispy....but truth is I actually really like that crispy rice and tried hard to be pacient enough to get it, so to me that was more of a bonus than a problem.

I have always used a stainless steel pot to cook my rice in. I see so many rice cookers and wonder why the need.
