Do you pay attention to critics or online reviews before you see a movie?

I usually look at the reviews online from both critics and from people who have seen the movie before I decide to see it. Then again, I live in New York City where movie tickets average about $10.50, so I definitely prefer to skip out on so-so movies and wait for the DVD.

Sometimes but if it is a movie that I want to see then it does not matter about the reviews. If it is a movie that I am on the "bubble" with then I will check the critic reviews. I do not base my decision soley on their reviews, though.

If I like the idea or plot of a movie, I would see it no matter what the critics say.

I talk with people who have seen the movie. Far too often I disagree with the critics. If they love it, half the time I hate it and vice versa. So I go by what I think from the commericials and trailers. I ask friends who have seen it and then decide. Most times I wait for the DVD anyways due to the high price of going to the theaters.

I never really read any movie review unless we need it from school. I love watching movies. When i saw a movie's trailer and find it interesting i tend to watch it. Or when a friend recommends it. I don't mind other critics cause i think it's better for me to see the movie myself. People have different opinions regarding their perception they have depicted from the movie, so maybe i'll have a different opinion about the movie if i'll be able to watch it myself. It's better than just listening to critics and never even seen the movie.

I do read the reviews before watching movies, but to be frank some reviews are not at correct about most of the movies, some reviews are over hyped about certain movies ...

Yes, I would usually look at the movie reviews but don't actually relay to them in choosing the movie that I will watch. Most of the time I will ask people who have already seen the movie and ask if it's good or not. Of course I will ask someone who would more likely be having the same taste as mine.

I don't tend to really pay attention to reviews or online critics and how they feel about new movies that come out. I will usually end up watching a few different trailers of the movie and making up my own mind as to whether or not I should go see it. Sometimes I will look at what other people have said about the movie on certain websites or sometimes my friends will tell me what they had thought about the movie. But I find for the most part I tend to think on my own & make my own decision based upon the trailer instead of just listening to what others have said. I may look at what people have said but I don't really listen to it. I have to go & see a movie for myself to come up with an opinion or feeling on whether I like a movie or not quite honestly! I know that there are movies that have gotten bad reviews & I've actually ended up liking them and there's been critically acclaimed movies that truly I could not understand why they were considered to be so great. I've gone through too many of those tapes or DVDs while renting or looking for something to rent. Movies that say "two thumbs up" or "four stars!" usually end up being the complete opposite. I usually end up liking more independent films as I find they don't get noticed enough & they are usually the best movies that are put out there but also made.. Plus I find that they end up getting bad reviews & I could never quite understand why so.. I think some people sometimes give movies bad reviews or critics do because they aren't willing to.. Have an open mind or be willing to accept something that's a little bit different compared to the majority of the movies that come out of Hollywood.. Which seems to be nothing more than copies of the same idea's.. I wish that there was some way of measuring or being able to know for sure whether or not I could see myself paying money to see a movie in a theatre. Personally the majority of the movies I have found as of recently that enter theatres now is just pure garbage in my opinion at least for me. There are only a few handful that I'd be willing to spend my money to go & see.. Thank goodness we get free movie passes so if a movie isn't the greatest we just wasted an hour or two of our lives.. But for me.. I find the place to go for movies if you're looking to get a good price is by far this place called VHQ or Movie Gallery in our city. I don't really go to theatres unless there is a movie I really want to see badly playing there. Otherwise I will prefer movies that I remember watching when I was a kid or just renting movies at home instead. I like the ability to sit in my own house with a blow of popcorn and enjoy that film in the comfort of my own home. Plus it helps also that when I have to run to the washroom or the person I am watching the movie with.. Can run to the washroom & we can just pause the movie until they get back.. When you go & see a movie in the theatre you don't have that luxury.. If you go to the washroom you may have ended up missing a good scene & then it makes it difficult to understand the movie at all because you had missed the scene or a major part of the movie. I've never been a fan of critics in the first place. I don't like that a movie's initial success has to be generated completely by a few people who watch the movie earlier in the week & then force feed their "opinion" onto otherwise independent thinking human. I want to be able to make up my own mind on whether I will like a song or a movie that's in theatres. I don't need how others feel to influence me all of the time.. I'd much rather prefer to go & see a movie myself instead of listening to a critic & see if I personally end up liking it. In conclusion I don't think it's necessary to listen to the critics and all of that when a movie comes out. If anything you should listen to your inner critic and listen to that before anything else. Just trust yourself and your gut feeling about a movie more than anyone else's opinions or thoughts when it comes to a movie! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

$10.50! Wow. The most I've paid so far is $8.00 and I thought that was outrageous. And I won't spend that much unless I've read a lot of reviews, seen the trailers, and taken the director into account. Sometimes a critic downgrades a movie for the very reasons that I would go see it, so I take reviews with a big grain of salt.
