i'm just wondering how many people teach there kids about death.
my ex's aunt died and he came over and told me about it. our daughter is 3 and i'm sure heard the conversation. then he turns and tell her his aunt is sick and he's going to visit her. (meaning ther funeral). anyway i'm like why did you just lie to her. i've had conversations with her to say when people die they go to heaven, and so on. i think it would be easier to explain it now and have her sort of understand then to wait until someone really close to her dies and then it's such a chock cause she doesn't understand at all.
what do you do. do you explain at all or just hope it doens't happen. what do you think is best.

first - thanks for creating this wonderful topic
though i am yet not married and i dont have any kid as of now, i often talk this out with my girlfriend(my to be wife) about how would we raise our kids, i would like to be more practical with them and let them know about bitter facts of life before they realise it on their own, i want them to grow as an individual more than anything
thanks sid

anything my children or grandchildren have asked about I have done my beast to explain , I find if you don't they will go elsewhere for the answer and that person might not tell them the truth or at least the way you would have wanted them to explain it . If you are totally honest without scaring them then they will trust you and ask you first xx

Yeah during my childhood even my mother or any other relatives used to say same thing. This is only just to wipe of the fear from them.

My son had questions early in his life. He was about 2 when he started asking. I think its a natural couriousity. I also think its much better to tell them the truth. I think the last thing I ever want one of my kids remembering is that Mommy or Daddy is a liar. I firmly believe in telling them the truth.

Hmm well, i don't think its good to tell that to a kid, you know, because you can't understand what is thinking, etc. So will be better to tell that when he/she grow more.
