Hunting for Hubby

Husbands maliciously skip out of marriage - and a woman can marry again only when the husband signs a "GET" (Hebrew for a Bill of Divorce). This leaves the woman in a stage of "agunot" (anchored) to the marriage. Jewish law gives the husband the power of ultimate decision. See story. http://www.reuters.com/articlePrint?articleId=USL0946398220070212 Do you agree with such a law? Should the Jews amend their law which has been in practice for thousands of years?

How one can agree with such rules sactioned under the religious grab? All acient religions incorporated rules which where prevelant at that time but time is a big changer, the society is not the same what it use to be and nor its loaded havily in favour of Men, as it use to be, as all religious head use to be Men. Ancient practise should be respected but certainly its to be amended, to be more rational and coherent.

There are many countries with the Crescent Moon on their flags. Their fundamentalist doctrines and archaic laws sound insulting to the civilized mind. Israel - the only country that flies the Star of David on its flag has archaic and quite fundamentalist laws in operation as well. http://www.torah.org/learning/halacha-overview/chapter23.html

I do not agree with such a law. I think both parties should be given equal rights in marriage, equal ability to end a marriage, and equal ability to decide within the marriage. No one gender should be anchored, and no one gender should have more rights than the other.

welll well well, i appreciate yur feministic feelings and i believe what u said is true upto an extent, howver when u ask for equality , liberalisation i think women must not forget that even today inspite of a woman earning more than a man and women wanting a divorce, the MAn is required to pay alumny to the female. Even if man wants a divorce he needs to still pay the alumny. hence in either caes man suffers. if women have physical tortures, marital rapes then men have mental torture and nagging pains. in most of the countries Women have to pay less tax as compared to men however many women end up saving their money more as they emotionally blackmail and convince the men to spend up their money on the women's needs , the daily expenses etc. IF LIBERTY IS NEEDED THEN BE equal everywhere!! Now away from the misogynaeist approach, i would like to empathise with what bwomen suffer all over the world. i respect them a lot and so do i respect my girlfriend. However i would like to bring to notice that men are no less happy. even they suffer however they never express their feelings and their sufferings are intangibles and they are always blamed

What a crazy rule in this day and age! Perhaps thousands of years ago when the roaming husbands couldn't go very far it made a little sense... (actually maybe it doesn't even make sense then... ) The fact the the government spends money each each to track them down. If this wasn't on Reuters, I'd have a had time believing it was true...

Israel follows the Torah. They even have a star Husband Hunter by the name of Rabbi Yehuda Gordon who runs after these absconding spouses and obtains the "GET". And Israel spends a few million shekels per year in the process!
