Does your cat really drive you insane for attention?

I got a Munchkin cat for my chihuahua as a playmate. Well the first week he was nervous and afraid of the other animals. So to help him feel safe I put his bed on the right side of my desk. So now he likes to lay on my desk and bug me. If I ignore him he turns the other way and bats me with his tail every few seconds until I make him get down. Sometimes he keeps head butting me and stands in the middle of the desk with my hand still on the mouse beneath him....grrr I really don't care for cats, I tolerate them. He doesn't try to get into my food or anything, he's just so intrusive. My mother cat on the other hand will try to grab the food before my mother can get it to her mouth sometimes. She has to fight her off to eat cereal too.
