cough and cold medicines for kids

does your kid often have coughs and colds? we've noticed that our kid often gets a runny nose and a cough (the one with pleghm) and his pedia gives him either bisolvon, mucosolvan or ambrolex then pair it up with pectoral syrup. when i was growing up it was either bisolvon or tuseran. i have never heard of pectoral syrup before.
