I love Orson Scott Card. I also like Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffrey and Andre Norton. I've also discovered a younger writer, Robert J. Sawyer. There is also S.M. Stirling - some of his books, not all. I've gotten meet all but Andre Norton (may she rest in peace) and S.M. Stirling. I have to say that almost all the writers I've ever meet have been pretty nice. I have gone to Science Fiction conventions to meet them, also readings and signings.

I love J.K. Rowling's imagination, and also Nicholas Sparks. But I like the romantic novels of Julie Garwood and Jude Deveraux. I love Pablo Peréz's "The Prophetic Worshiper", and Paulo Coehlo's "The Alchemist".. really inspiring and captivating. I usually prefer devotional books, romantic novels, fiction and suspense.

The roomie & I like Jude Deveraux's romances, especially the ones that have a fantasy bend. Her Knight in Shining Armor is great fun. What can I say, I'm just into that science fiction/fantasy/time travel stuff.

I've read some of those writers. They write in the genre of women's or fem lit MOSTLY. I'd rather listen to them than actually read them, because I've only got so much time in my day for actual reading. I'm currently listening to "Sappho's Leap."

I have only read 3 books completely through. They are the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. She is a good writer and keeps me interested in her books. I'm almost done with the 3rd one and will be reading the 4th very soon. So after I'm done with the 4th book I'll have to find a new author until the next sisterhood book comes out.

I'm a big fan of Card, too, and also Robert Heinlein (the early stuff, before he paid off his mortgage) and Asimov. Always good to see another science fiction fan around! Have you ventured into fantasy at all? If you're interested, I'd suggest the Dragon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies by Melanie Rawn. The last book of the second trilogy is out of print, though, so you might have to really look for it!

I'm a Lackey fan. I tell people I like soft science fiction & hard fantasy - in the sence that it might be real. My least fav Norton's are the Witch World stuff.

I love Neil Gaiman books and graphic novels. I just think his work has no boundaries and lets you explore other aspects of the world. I like authors who are very creative so I like all the Lord of the rings books, and the Harry potter series. Paolo Coehlo isn't bad himself. He may be a bit religious sometimes but it's not tacky. So its pretty good.

I've read American Gods & Ananzi Boys - well, listened to them on audio. I also enjoy graphic novels. I read the Lord of the Rings back right out of college & have been working on the Potter books as they've come out.

I like the poet Mihai Eminescu (romanian)...but maybe nobody heard about it. Some poems tend to be more Sci Fi and mythological stories.

I wanted to respond to you when you wrote, but between working & stuff I just haven't had time. I love Doyle too. I think Holmes is one of the most brilliant inventions of all time. Personally, I'm glad he's out of copyright so other people can write fiction about him now.

I enjoy J.California Cooper. Her works of fiction are so good that you can't help but laugh or feel sad for her people as well as learn a lesson from them. I also enjoy works from Tajuana TJ Butler, Gwynne Forster, Maya Angelou,Walter Mosley(esp Easy Rawlins books),Bebe Moore Campbell(she'll be sorely missed RIP),Sidney Sheldon(RIP),Mary Higgins Clark, Danielle Steel among others. I apologize to the SCI FI folks here. this is mostly African American fiction.

Hey, your favorite writers are your favorite writers. I put up this topic to see if I can expand my reading list (not that I don't have over 100 books to read now.) Octavia Butler was black & wrote science fiction. Granted she was one of only a few black SF writers I know about, but that doesn't mean that the field isn't wide open to them!

As of now it's Neil Gaiman! He's such a versatile writer...he never fails to surprise me with each of his books. I also love his Graphic novels. They're quite pricey but it's all worth buying!

One of my favourite writers is Thomas Hoving. He isn't a science fiction writer, but he writes about archaeology. He wrote a really excellent book called 'King of the Confessors'. He also wrote a book called 'Tutankhamen' which covered not only King Tut, but the dig done by Howard Carter. He really has a gift for bringing history to life and I find his subjects fascinating.
