I always though to install Linux but I don't know how it works. I use my computer mostly to connect internet and to play a few games and listen a lot of music.
Do you think with Linux my system will go faster? With your experience, which is the advantages of Linux against Windows Xp? I know there are lot of version of Linux, I think I'd like a visual windows oriented Linux. Do you know any? I've hear about debian, maybe it is good.
I'd like to have some suggestions, I need a simply system without lot of graphic, but that could run new programs.

I like Linux, but I don't use it. I tried to install it on my second hard drive and I had to end up erasing it because I couldn't get things such as printers and such to work with it. I spent a lot of time trying and trying an I finally gave up, sorry! I just don't have time if there are no drivers to use for things (printers for example) that I use on a regular basis.

I think installing linux could be a little hard expecially for the hardware compatibility. Right now lookin in the net I found a version of linux called kubuntu where you can try it without installing and running it onto a cd. I'm trying that right now.

Yes, that is the version I used! I still have the CD and I can still boot up from CD if I like, but it doesn't install anything unless you tell it to. It is nice to get experience from Linux and if there are more drivers to install printers and things I think that would be better :).

Linux is a very stable and user friendly environment, but it is not easy to become familiar with some of the changes after using Windows for a long time. I would certainly recommend Linux, if only for the experience of using something different. However, I would advise that you make a complete backup of your Windows XP system in order to have the option of returning to it if you choose to.
I run Windows on my deaktop and Linux on my laptop, which is the easy way to try another operating system.

Well, there is Firefox and Opera in Linux format, Yahoo messenger and MSN messenger in Linux. There is Open Office in Linux and there are many other programs in Linux, but many of the makers of printers, DVD drive, etc don't offer Linux drivers, so that is where it becomes tricky! :(
