I have tried many types of cat litter, to date.
Grit based litter, I found this one ok but for odour control it had very little effect.
Paper based litter, looks very much like grit but didn't like it at all, when my cat did a wee, it would soak it up far too much, causing it to need changing far too often, again not very good for odour control.
Clay based litter, very much as useless as the paper based and looks like grit too, soaks up far too much wee again, needing it to be changed far to often for my liking, poor odour control and turns a horrible brown colour when wet, making it look like something other than wee.
Then there is wood based litter, this one comes out on top for me, odour control is pretty satisfactory, when it gets wet it will dry to look like saw dust, it is also more asorbant than the others I have tried needing less litter.
Good luck, you'll soon find a cat litter you are happiest with, its just a case of trying different types and measuring up the good and bad points.

I would say the wee, although when my cat does a poo and it pongs, the smell does fade away. Where as when she does a wee, it does have a strong smell, wee does tend to linger longer than poo. Thats why I prefer the wood based cat litter, it seems to deal better with the smell to nutrilised it, I guess that could be the pine smell from the litter helping to do that.
I'm afraid it is inevitable at some point cat little will need changing, of who the ones I have tried, this seemed to require changing less often.

I starting using the clay based litter, but couldn't stand the smell and mess, so now I use the cristal based cat litters.
It excellant I found that it absorbs the wee and odors in no time at all. You can also just scoop out the poo and flush it doen the toilet as the cristals are 100% biodegradable and non toxic.
It also cuts down on the length of time you have to change the whole tray. If just one cat is using it your recommended to replace every 30 days, and for 2 cats 10-15days.
Hope this helps!
