despite having a streaming cold and a head that i wanted to bang against the wall from the pain ..i was determined not to let that stop me enjoying the new ywar festivities that were going to be laid down for us in chinatown, manhattan..
so braving the cold both hubby and i got dressed in our traditional gear and headed off for the no one train..
when we got there around 11 am we went tou our favourite little resaurant and tucked into a nice brunch before all the big crouds descended..as it is very hard to find a restaurant with free places after a certain time..
we were lucky..then at 12 we headed for the procession that was going to start..
it was wonderfull..there was lion dancing and firecrackers..but at one point i coudn't breath from the smoke lol..it was quite cold and windy..so after a couple of hours of loads of lions strutting their stuff and looking around the stalls we set off home and i got another computer lesson..
there was a lovely piece of purple jade i saw and wanted to get it..but it was either that or a mocrophone lol..so i decided that i would get many a happy hour with the micropghone..how am i gonna get the mylot song on youtube eh?
what did you guys do yesterday..?

That was very interesting.. enjoyed hearing about your new year's day... Every new year's we celebrate by having aparty with our set of long term friends (Hubby went to schools with most of them!) We're rather sedate and all these days, but we stay up til midnight to greet the new year. (Now I'm waiting for spring, at which time I will renew my resolutions!:))

yeap and it's supposed to be the year of the golden pig..but it might have an effect on the stock market as the elememnts ruling are fire over water which are in conflct with each other..according to some feng shui experst it is a good year to invest in metals..not os good to invest in stocks at the latter end of the year..

here in the philippines, we also have chinatowns. and i was on telly two nights ago watching how chinese people in the philippines celebrated the chinese new year. and i love dragon dance. i really wish i could see them in person. but whenever i try, there are lots of people already there so i just go back home and watch dragon dance on telly. i find the eyes of the dragon really cute. it blinks! haha! plus it's very colorful, too!
i also turn on the tv and get some new feng shui advices from the experts. and i do look at what's best for my chinese astrology within this year, too. and i remember it said, for people like me born in the year of the horse to never travel north sometime in june since it's an accident month for me. well, i do believe it. there's nothing wrong in believing anyway, right?
and mom bought me a prosperity bracelet the following day at a chinese store with many tiger eyes on it. it says that tiger eyes on bracelets or necklaces are good so as to keep me healthy all the time. and i love the bracelet. expensive but worth it.
that's just how i do it when it's chinese new year. no much of going out. but more of having fun watching the celebration on telly.

I love the Chinese New Year spirit.. In my hometown, some lanes with old houses are decorated with red lanterns all along the left and right of the street. Very beautiful especially at night. And some houses also hang lanterns outside their homes, together with red clothes. All these adding to the atmosphere to the Chinese New Year.
And the amount of goodies to eat during this period! From cookies to 'bak kwa' (sliced bbq pork).
Visiting and catching up with friends are another nice thing of the New Year.. from old school friends, university mates, clerics, relatives - this is the time to meet all!
So, you can guess what I did most - visiting and eating! :) Basically enjoying this 15 days!
Warmest regards

We lighted fireworks in the Chuxi night(the new year eve) and payed a new year call to our neighbours in the firt morning of the golden pig year. Then we watched the Dragon dance show. The next day is for grandpa snd grandma. All the daughters-in-law should go back to their original home to bring their wishes to their parents.I'm not good at English. There might be some mistakes.Do you know what I mean?
