How much drama in the workplace is too much? Does every job have it's own share?

I just started working for a company and our daily business seems to be fuled by drama. Who's sleeping with who and who not to cross on the subject. It seems that people have even gotten fired by just noticing the drama and trying to quell it....Is this a normal workplace occurance or am I alone?
