Kitchen is uninviting

We recently bought a new house and the kitchen needs some help! I would like it to be more warm and inviting. It used to be the house's old garage so it's huge- a combination kitchen and dining room. I know it has a lot of potential. It has hardwood floors, we restained the cabinets and put in a new darker granite colored countertop. The kitchen part is not too bad, it's mainly the dning room that is driving me crazy. Any cheap decorating ideas? we are on a tight budget
