I don't know anything about this issue other than if you gained 70 plus pounds in just a few weeks then you need to go to the doctor now, that is not good at all, there are so many things that a quick weight gain like that can cause.

Hi Tial719,
Ditch the medication! I have a homeopathic & naturopathic remedy to fix hypothyroidism. If you were improving with the medication, you would not be gaining any weight. I am a student so I have just learnt this one. I'll tell you if you promise to write back and tell me how well it went!! If you are interested, let me know and I will find the page I wrote the instructions on and send it to you.

I would love to know this remedy myself.. I had grave's disease (a bad case) a couple of years ago, and had radioactive iodine treatment, and it pretty much killed my thyroid. Now I am on synthroid, and I am gaining weight like crazy. I can't stand for my husband to look at me like this, and I can't stand to see myself like this.

Your medication definitely should not cause you to gain weight, but I would hope that you would allow your doctor to adjust your medications rather than to simply ditch your medications as previously suggested.
I have been on Synthroid for my hypothyroidism for several years and have had the dosage adjusted several times. The medication has never caused me to gain any weight over all of this time. If you are still gaining weight, you need to see your doctor regularly and make sure you keep him/her informed of your concerns.
