You might try a product called Greased Lightening. The worst thing you can do to a carpet is use hot water or steam because it sets a stain. I have rental properties and have cleaned many carpets after tenants have spilled various things on them. The best thing to do is put some of the Greased Lightening into a spray bottle and spray the stain then use a scrub brush. Make sure to get all the soap out too because too much soap will cause it to get dirty quicker and make it stiff and sticky.
