First settled in the 10th century BCE by speakers of Proto-South Dravidian, Kerala was influenced by the Mauryan Empire. Later, the Cheran kingdom and feudal Nair-Namboothiri Brahminical city-states became major powers in the region. Early contact with overseas lands culminated in struggles between colonial and native powers. Finally, the States Reorganisation Act of November 1, 1956 elevated Kerala to statehood!!Kerala has the highest Physical Quality of Life Index (PQLI) in India and the highest Human Development Index. With the highest literacy rate in the country, highest life expectancy, least population growth, lowest infant mortality, Kerala has been adopted by the world bodies as the role model for developing countries.Native performing arts include koodiyattom, kathakali – from katha ("story") and kali ("performance") – and its offshoot Kerala natanam, koothu (akin to stand-up comedy), mohiniaattam ("dance of the enchantress"), thullal, padayani, and theyyam. Other arts are more religion- and tribal-themed.Several ancient ritualised arts are Keralite in origin; these include kalaripayattu (kalari ("place", "threshing floor", or "battlefield") and payattu ("exercise" or "practice")). Among the world's oldest martial arts, oral tradition attributes kalaripayattu's emergence to Parasurama. In other words .. PERFECT!!! YEah dude Im living in kerala and Proud of it!!!

I am not a keralite but I have high regards for them. They are very intelligent and straight forward and hardworking. My closest friends are from Kerala. But they are very selfish when it comes to their country cousins and look after them inspite of all odds. Many instances they do not follow any rules for their country cousins and they bend the rules to their favour and help them when required. Pardon me if I have hurt but this is my honest view.
