How I earn on myLot

People that responded to one of my other discussions asked how I earn what I stated. I cannot say it is a strong, reliable average, I have been paid twice. I want to average $35 per month, both months so far, I was paid more. I do not mind sharing what I do, though, as it works for me. First, I try to average 35 or more good responses per day. For me that comes out to around one dollar a day, or slightly more. I only start a few discussions, and I do what I can to make sure they get at least one response. That is the only way you get paid for them. I add tags to everything, comment on photos, resolve my unresolved discussions. I rate every discussion I respond to, after all, if it is good enough for me to respond to, it deserves a +. I report abuse when I run across it. I do not bad mouth myLot, that is called biting the hand that feeds you. Very ungrateful. I try to be nice to other members, treat them like community, help if I can. I have read good tips by other users, but the guidelines state that we should not draw attention to other users by name. I will pm any friend with names of other good posters. Now, I will invite people to add anything that I have missed. I have some referrals, but they are family, and do very little. Come on community, add your bit for the newbies here. Oh yes, post good enough responses that you will earn best responses.

I've personally been paid once so far, and I earned far more than I expected because when Mylot cleaned up the site, my earnings went up far more than I had dreamed. In fact, I'd forgotten that that might happen before payday, even though I'd heard it from other users when I was really new on the site. I've also found, because I had less posting time the last few days and only got to post about 30-35 times each day, that what Gerty is saying here about earning about a dollar for that amount of work is right. That's also what I earned on the days that I got to post about 32 times or so, with at least one or two of those being new topics that I personally started. And posting about 30 times per day doesn't even take that long, if you have a good friend list who you know start good topics, as it's so much faster to go through email and reply to new topics from your friends that way than it is to get on the site and look through the hot topics of the day, and the new discussions, although I've done all of that, too. I just tend to try to work through my friend's discussions first, and that is the fastest part of my day when I'm typing on here. ^_^
Personally, I had days last month (at least twice) where I earned over $5 in one day. It really is possible. But i was earning closer to 4 cents per post then, which doesn't seem to be happening right now. But still, never fear. If you are posting really good quality replies and you are replyiing only to good topics, when Mylot cleans out cheaters and bad topics your earnings will go up and up. I love that! ^_^

I do not know if a change in your star rating changed your earnings, but you tend to earn better than I do, Thanks for the good words. I know that there may be people knocking you down, I want you to know that the day you posted that, I went in to rate as many +'s as I can. I do not think I can help much by myself, but keep it up, you will be back up there. Your tips are really good.

And what is considered a good response? I always answer in detail never with a yes or no. I mainly posted so i could help you out and give you a first response for sharing. Oh and ill rate you too. Thanks for the info.

What is a good response? That is certainly a good question? Yes or No is usually not a great response, although, in some instances it might be a great response. Long responses are good if there is some need for all that discussion. Long responses can also drag on with inadequate purpose.
Thoughtful responses are the best. Be careful slamming others, because you really cannot judge a good response unless you follow the discussion as the author did and respond from that perspective. We should not be too quick to define a 'cookie cutter' good response.

Gerty you are a good friend and a good example of what a mylot user should be like. I dont mind being asked what my average earnings are but I don't think I should break it down into the exact amount I have received for x amounts of postings etc. I saw one discussion where ech person was asked to comment and give exactly what they earned for every posting as she was trying to work out myLots algorithm (which is against the rules). She gave her own breakdown of earning and said she earned 10 cents or more on each response excluding referrels , photos etc. She promises n her next discussionhow to earn that much. Just to let you read for yourself what I think is a bad idea and can cause problems in myLot here is the link: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/788401.aspx

I saw this discussion. What most of the people who ask these questions do not know is that they can go to a profile and find what they want to know, they just have to work a little. I also do not let people know how many best responses I have, if they really want to know, they can go check, I will not post about exact numbers on things.I do not really like those discussions, and do not usually respond to them. I am going to point out right here that these comments that I am making to responses are not paid comments, just discussion. That is how it is. So I am not padding my income.

That's probably good that you made the point about not paddiing your discussion...lol I read a discussion last week (since deleted) that was complaining about people trying to make money by responding to their own posts, well we don't make any money respoding to our own but I am very thankful that like myself, most of my friends aren't really here just for the money... How can we discuss if we don't respond to are own posts. I think some people even when they read the guidelines, see what they want to see..I think it's terrible that we have to explain our actions all the time, to avoid being attacked by ding dongs...lol

I agree, I think her discussion is bordering on if not a violation of the guidelines. Mylot says Don't:
Post anything that inaccurately explains the myLot earnings algorithm. Our myLot mathematicians have worked long and hard on our elaborate payment system and we wouldn’t want any of our users to make them feel inadequate by breaking their algorithm in minutes.
While she hasn't actually posted an inaccurate explanation yet, it seems that's where it is headed?? I'm not bothering to respond because I think it will be deleted. I could be wrong but I don't think I am. Just my opinion.

Oh dear that was very good GardenGerty I received my first payout it was $37.00 for the month so we must of receive the same for the month as mine was carried over from the month before. I agree what you have submitted here as I do the same. For the newbies here I do see that they are mainly only posting 1-2 lines and they need to be more than that so that you can get more response to your discussion, and also in your response to others.

Yeah.... well to be honest, i would be happy with 5$ a month, considering all I am doing is sitting in work, not working, and posting on a discussion board.
Dosnt bother me like lol. I'm just happy I am being paid for providing information to people,
anyways, cya round!!

I have only recently noticed that I could rate not only the discussion but also the responses, so now I take a little time and rate those too. Do you know if our earnings are a little higher if our star rating is high? Just a little curious.

I am not sure on that, but it may be, because I know people who were earning higher, then their color went down, and so did their earnings. Only myLot knows for sure.

To be hoenst I have no clue how you make as much as you do in a day or month. I do post quality posts. I tend to make them three or four sentences. I also make new discussions. I think they good ones that will generate alot of responses. As I have posted the same question on a forum I post and get lots of responses. But than on here....some days I find no comments to my discussions. I know when I fuirst started I asked some stupid oneliners and games. But I found out how the site works and don't do that. I do all that you ask. But I am lucky to make anywhere from 40 cents to 70 cents aday. I really don't think what one person does ,works for everyone else. I have fifteeen referals. But guess what...non of them post now. A couple started and was real good posters. But for some reason...stopped!! When my referrals posted. That was the only time I made over one dollar a day. I make anywhere from ten to fifteen dollars a month off my lot. No complaints here. I am happy and thankful for what I can get. But I do wish I could make about twnety to twenty five bucks a month from my lot.
The best advice I can give to new comers that you did not give yourself...would be to get some good friends who will respond to your discussions. I tend to accept all friend. Unless they have '0' responses. But that doesn't seem to help either. But I am going to keep on trying.
Good luck and thanks for all the tips.

Well most of the part has been added by the creator of this discussion. Very less is left.
Only suggestion is please post quality replies and tag them without fail and remember to start quality discussions.
Failing to do all these and repenting later saying that you loast few dollars before the payout date will not be a right thing to do.

That's just about the same thing I am doing. I really just try to follow the guidelines. I've found that it's really the best way to earn. I also try not to get drawn into some of the drama...but it's a weakness..lol I can't stand when people target others just to be hateful. I think that's why my poor reputation rating has fallen.. some people just don't belong here if you know what I mean. I really have to cut back on my friends, there is no way I can keep up with the amount I have...so If any of my other friends read this.. Please don't feel slighted if I don't respond, it's really hard to respond to everyone's posts all the time. I don't feel bad when my friends don't respond to my discussions...we can't all be interested in everything..lol I do have 4 referrals and 1 of them actually responded to 2 discussions..lol Guess I should work on that.

Thanks for the tips. I'm a newbie here. I'm noticing an income of less-than 20cents a day. Not bad for participating in a community of like-minded folks. For me, the cash is a bonus. I'm shooting for a free vanilla latte at the end of my first month. Seems reasonable.
I know payout isn't until after $10 so i won't actually be able to purchase my latte until summer. It's just a minor goal. I figure, as long as I participate, my mylot account will never be empty (unlike my bank account). ;)
peace.

hey - good tips ! i try to respond to as many as i can - i wish i had time for responding to more :) i do upload pics in my interests and that is one thing everyone must do ! it earns you easy money. they have a limit on no of pics you can upload - i think 20 or 30 max per day. and they pay anywhere upto 40 cents for all these pics. so it's good addition coz after 30 responses i don't even find good discussions to respond to or am too tired to reply to more.. so thats when you can start uploading pics. try it. good luck - and trust me if you do this you can cross usd 40 next month !

I am going to have to go through some of my pictures and see what I can organize for posting. At this time I do not post pictures, and that might be something that would polish off my plan of earning. Thanks.

I think when you reach that point, your earnings improve. Could be my imagination, though. I still think perhaps the star rating affects your earnings.

I'm hoping to earn just $10 this month, although I don't know if it's going to be possible. I hope so. I've only been here three days, and have fallen just under the $3 mark so far.
I spent most of yesterday posting good responses, and discovered this morning that I'd earned my Star too so I'm a happy Bunny right now.
I haven't posted much in the way of discussions of my own at all. I've started three - one of them didn't get a response, but the others got a couple so its not all bad.
I initially joined because I was curious to see what all the fuss was about. I was pleasantly surprised. MyLot is a fantastic way to make new friends and there's advice on just about anything. The fact that we earn a little extra money at the same time is just an added bonus.

Hope that's not gonna be a shame on me. LOL Guess I gotta follow your advise, post as many as 30 in a day...hope I really can..well, crossing my fingers for this... please wish me luck!!! LOL :)

Hi, hj. this is an old discussion, but a lot of the information still is good. MyLot changes some things from time to time. You do not get paid for commenting on a response on your discussion, but I just learned recently that if you get a response, then you give a comment, and it gets a response, and so on, then you will get extra earnings, I am not sure how much. A friend of mine said basically, if it turns into a real conversation it earns better. When I first posted this discussion the pay per post was much higher. It is still higher than any other forum I have posted on, but since I have two jobs, I have a hard time earning payout even in some months. Hope you are enjoying this site.
