I think one of the most common mistakes when viewing astrology is to think in terms of absolutes. Astrology is a very complex system which needs to be considered in its entirety in order to get any kind of reasonable results. It is not about predicting one's future at all, rather it is a means of examining potential influences in one's life. What one does with those influences is a very different matter for each person.
Astrology has been around for thousands of years. I have spoken with several lifetime students of astrology and had many of my preconceptions knocked down. I am convinced that since so many people have put so much effort into it for so many years, that there must be something to it. I am not willing to put in that kind of effort to understand it.

I don't really believe, but I still like to read my horoscope when I see it, because it's just fun to see what these people had to say. I used to be really into horoscope and zodiac when I was younger. However, I am a Gemini and yet I don't really match any of the characteristics of a typical gemini, other than the fact that I can have two personalities, and that I talk a lot. However, I am not a big party person, and I am very shy. I have meaningful relationships, where they typical gemini, according to books, is very jumpy and has a hard time keeping romantic relationships. At the same time, my dad, brother and boyfriend are also all gemini's. And they don't have many characteristics same as the "typical gemini" either.
