With all the violence in the world that is being committed in the name of Islam, and it's Prophet Mohammad, should we fear Islam?
Mohammad began his career willing to coexist with other religions and belief systems, then later on turned to the path of conquest and the disenfranchisement of those who were not true believers in his faith.
Which teachings are the true words of Islam, those that instruct tolerance and co-existence, or those the preach the subjegation of the followers of other faiths?

I'm afraid of the spread of the conservative backwards reform that Islam seems to be taking in many Middle Eastern states and how that ideology is spreading to "pious" muslims in the West.
Muhammad began Islam trying to be peaceful and even emulated the Jews (Islam is an Abrahamic religion), but when they discredited his teachings and refused to bow to his ideas, he turned angry. From teh beginning, Muhammad and his followers used conversion and conquest to take over the important trade routes between the Hijaz and the Levant.

It is also a well known reality that Mohammad allowed for the breaking of contracts and promises made with those outside the faith. Given that that is true, are we safe to deal honestly with Muslim leaders? They have no moral imperitive to act in good faith toward those who are not in the Islamic fold with them.
