Controversy savvy persons or religious fanatics please excuse.
This is for some serious consideration that is present in the Bible.
While the Bible is claimed to be consistent & foolproof, there are quite a few contradictions in the Bible. Though they are not major contradictions, still there are contradictions in the details of certain accounts of incidents, contradictions in counts in two different references & in some places contradictions in the time/date/year.
What is your answer for these contradictions? Does that not make the Bible less authentic?

I think contradictions in the Bible are for us to ask to God because I know He have the answers. There are mysteries (deeper things of God) that man cannot comprehend nor explain. God will not be God anymore if He contradicts Himself. The good thing is that there is a God who revealed Himself (personality, purpose, capabilities, plans, etc.) to His creation through His word (Bible). It's not a question of authenticity but of purpose.

I agree with all your views. I have tasted Him so i know all these things. But to an unbelieving intellectual, how do you explain the same. One way is asking/challenging them to try believing it. But ultimately he'll be convinced only if he gets a reasonable answer. The numbers part doesn't matter that much since there were so many versions. But how do you explain the changing from old covenant to new covenant. Has God changed? If the new covenant is better, why didn't he give it earlier?

God is an unchanging God-- the same today, yesterday and forever. As far as I know the old covenant was made solely for the Jews while the new (through Jesus Christ) was for all. That's why the 10 commandments were summarizes into to 2 commandments as what told by the Lord Jesus.

I think, we have to see bible as the way it is. Contradictions could be happened in the view of paradox reality (two things that have opposite one another but both exist and true - like fire & water).Unfortunately only through this paradoxial point of view we could have better foundation to understand the bible.

Hi all,
Here is one contradiction that i noticed regarding who carried the Cross.
Contradiction between (Mt 27:32, Mk 15:21, Lk 23:26) and Jn 19:17.
I came across another - a count of people of Israel in the OT which was not tallying with the sum of the individual counts of each tribes. I don't remember the reference.
Ofcourse, asp778's point is very good. Sometimes we get lost when our only point of view is contradictory. We should look from the other side also.

There are NO contradictions in the Bible.
If you believe there are, please name them.
There is an answer.

People who claim there are contradictions in the Bible have rarely read the Bible, and those who have, have found only contradictions to their own beliefs and to their own way of life.
There are NO contradictions. There are a few apparent ones, but these are easily explained.

You have to remember that the Bible has been copied, re-interpreted, and modified by men. Almost none of it is available in the original form to make comparisons from. What we have to do as Christians is believe in the intent and meaning of the content. In some instances, we will just have to wait unti we are face to face with God to have all our questions answered.
