Nascar vs Indy Car

I like racing of all sorts. As long as it's fast, I'm game. But my hubby HATES Nascar and much prefers Indy Car, I like both, pretty much equally. His biggest gripe is the restrictor plate because it causes the drivers to bunch up and results in a lot of accidents, where as in open wheel racing (like Indy Car) you don't have a bunch of accidents because the drivers are able to break away and actually get to 'race' (as my hubby says). What do you think? Is one better than the other? Or do you think the restrictor plate is a necessary evil?
