I love to read. Right now I am working on The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver and I've read it at least three times before. I am always looking for new books to read, so tell me what you're reading, what your favorite book is, who your favorite authors are and whatnot.
I am a huge fan of true crime novels - such as the books by Ann Rule. I also really enjoy Patricia Cornwell's books (the Kay Scarpetta series) and enjoy books that make you think. I just finished the first seven Stephanie Plum books (by Janet Evanovich) and while they were good, they were a bit "fluffy" for me. I also have read very fiew biographies/autobiographies that I didn't like, so any recommendations on those would be much appreciated as well!
So, myLotters, what are you reading? What do you think I should be reading?

I'm currently reading Isabel Allende's Daughter of Fortune and James Salter's A Sport and A Pasttime. Normally, I only read one book at time but since my copy of Allende's book is really big and bulky, I started on the other one so that I could have something to read when I'm not at home.
One book I read last year which really ranks high on my list now is Nicole Krauss' The History of Love. I know the title may seem a little too cheesy or sappy, but don't be misled by it. Krauss writes so beautifully and I was just constantly moved by this book.
I can't remember the last good biography/autobiography I read though, maybe because I tend to veer away from them as well? Hahaha. Oh, and it's not exactly true crime, but have you read Mario Puzo's The Godfather? The first Puzo book I read was Omerta, mainly out of boredom really, but it was really good. Moreso with The Godfather, and I'm not even really into crime/Mafia-related books at all.

Daughter of Fortune? I have heard of that, but don't know what it's about. Are you enjoying it?
A Sport & A Pasttime? Is that about baseball? I'm not a huge baseball fan but might be wiling to check it out.
I, also, try not to read more than one book at a time, but when I ride the bus, sometimes I _have_ to have a second "smaller" book!
I have also heard of The History of Love and sounds like something I might enjoy - I'll have to check it out!
I haven't read anything by Puzo, but I've read, and enjoyed Capote, so I would probably enjoy reading The Godfather. I didn't like the movie (wasn't so into the violence) but at least with a book I can imagine it cleaner!
Thanks so much for all the suggestions!!!

I think my most favorite book of all would be "Remembrance" from Jude Deveraux, it's more of a fantasy touching story than a love story. It made me cry four times while reading it. I'm reading it over again right now. I also just finished reading the Time Traveler's Wife a few days ago and the ending made me cry to. It's just so touching and sad (or at least to me.) Yesterday, I found out that they're coming out with a movie for The Time Traveler's Wife. It's said to be released in 2008, so we have a while to wait but I really can't wait for the movie!

I think that I have heard of Remembrance ... and I know that I've read _something_ by J. Deveraux so I may have to check it out.
I loved TTTW and also am excited to hear that a movie of it will be coming out. I can definately be patient enough to wait for that!!

What is Wizard's First Rule about? Is it sci-fi? There have been very few sci-fi books that I've really enjoyed (Juniper's Cup, which is a young-adult novel, has been the only one I can remember), so I am willing to _try_ to branch out but I'm not a huge fan.
I love the true crime serial killer stuff ... kinda morbid & strange! I am interested, thanks to my German degree, in German history and books about World War II as well. : )

My all time favorite work of fiction is Flaubert's MADAME BOVARY. Even in translation, it's the most beautifully written book I've ever come across. I re-read it every couple years and that's saying something because I almost never re-read a book.

The Poisonwood Bible is a great book. I read it in my 11th grade English class and I think it was the only book I read that year that I really loved. Right now I'm starting the series by Kathy Reichs that inspired the tv show Bones. I haven't read much but I've heard great things about the books and hopefully you would enjoy them. Have you read the Time Traveler's Wife? I absolutely loved that book and its very unique and interesting.

I _have_ read The Time Traveler's Wife and I loved it. I saw someone last week on the bus who was reading it and it made me want to re-read it. Great book!
I've never been a fan of Bones, but if there is a book series about it, I may just have to check that out! Thanks!!
