Do you look at the titles on the books that are on people's bookshelves?

I have to say that I actually do find myself checking out everyones elses bookshelves. I love to read myself so I have many books and I like to look and see what everyone else reads. If they have books that I have not read but thought about I will ask them how the book was. It always gives us something else to talk about to.

I love books so much that I think I check out other people's books just because of that. Plus, I really am curious about what others read. Once, I was in a house that had NO bookshelves in it anywhere. I actually asked them about that too and they said that they didn't like to read so they didn't have any books. WOW! That was the weirdest thing ever! I even check out the books on the tables and shelves in the pictures in the home decorating magazines that I also read! How sad is that?

Yes, it's like automatic for me too. I don't think that I could stop myself from reading the spines of books, not even if you paid me!

I remember when I was in elementary when I first saw the sets of Encyclopedia owned by my classmate, I really wanted to have just even one of those books. I really don't know why but Im somewhat jealous with my classmate during that time. I just love books especially science and history titles.

I know what you mean. There are some encyclopedia sets that are so beautiful. In my favorite set, each encyclopedia was a blue leatherette binding with gold lettering. I really liked looking at that set!

Absolutely. You can learn a lot about people from what they read. I once sold real estate and the agents in my office would often look through the houses we had listed for books. It became a way to describe sellers...No Books was Real Estate code for either a not very interesting house or a not very bright seller. Of course the seller's never knew this. It was absolutely amazing how many million dollar houses were out there with all kinds of gadgetry (pool tables, State of the Art Electronics, Pools, Tennis Courts & even Putting Greens) but NOT ONE BOOK, not even a bible or family medical book.

That's way too freaky and kind of sad. If I were rich, I'd need a whole house just to hold all my books. I might even have to build a separate buiding to house them all! Thank you for the insight into the real estate code to. I think I am going to be using that!

Always! I'm a very curious person, and so, when I visit people, I always take a look at their bookshelves. Obviously I never pick up books in my hands, I don't like ill-bred people, but I think that takimg a look to the books leaving them in the bookshelves isn't nothing bad.

I agree, looking at their books can't be a bad thing or else they would have the books hidden away in another room, right? That's my thinking anyway. If I don't want people to see a book that I am reading, then it goes in my bedroom and I don't invite people into my bedroom. It's very personal.

You bet I do. I love to read and am always interested in seeing what others are reading or at least what is on their bookshelves. I've been dusting my bookshelves this week since two of my sisters and a cousin will be here on Easter Sunday, and they're all voracious readers like I am. I'm sure many of my books will be taken and will be passed around the family.

Yes I am very nosey like that, I will look at what sort of person they are, and you can usually sum up a person by the books he is reading, gawd knows what people make of me, I don't have many books and those I have are either the full set of Harry Potters or Detective novels. It does put me off it I see a bookshelf full of intellectual books or lots of Shakespeare.

Around half the time I do. Some of the houses I've been to, they don't have any books! I find that really hard to believe that there are some people who aren't interested in books but it's true. Looking at titles on peoples shelves can give you some insight into the person, what they like, etc.

I always do this! It tells so much about a person and their interests. And if any of them happen to be books I've read, it gives me something else to talk about with the person. (This happens often, since I have read a lot of books.)
If I happen to be visiting someone and there's something going on I'm not really involved in (as is the case if I go with my husband to practice with his band) I often ask if I can borrow a book. I've read several from my friend Bill's collection, and it's led me to discover some great authors that I might not have known about otherwise.

yeah. i do this instinctively. my eyes are easily riveted by bookcases, and it's almost second nature to me to reach out for a book that catches my attention

I sure do. It's always interesting to me to see the sorts of things my friedns or people I am visitng read. Of course you'll always get those people that have books intended to impress but they haven't actually read them, or people that buy books based n the color of their covers. I will never forget the first time I saw that done in a home design magazine- all the books were covered in white jackets to go with the minimalist look in the room. I thought it very odd!
