I used to have a large collection of books, but now I have fallen into the trend of storing the material on the computer. I use Microsoft Encarta, which is a fabulous interactive encyclopaedia but does lack the attraction of seeing 24 volumes in a bookcase. The same goes for manuals and many factual and fictional stories. I know a lot of people who still collect books, but the trend is slowly fading and I imagine that it will soon become a thing of the past.

Yes, I noticed in the other discussion. It is always good to find someone who would rather try to learn than simply let someone else do it.

I am more into books of philosophy or kinda spiritual thing. I also read more books related to business now a days bcoz I am pursuing MBA now. And before marriage I read books of Vivekananda, Ramakrishna paramhamsar's ...also short story books I like. But I never indulge in novels. Apart from that now I read magazines of all related to computers and health. my husband also reads lot of books and he used to buy often. And we both love to travel a lot. So we have books of routes all over India also few other countries book. So we have few collections related to business, health, parenting, travel, philosphy , motivational books and lot about cars .....so small library in our house. Because mix of all sorts of books.

I have! It's in my room right by my bed, so it's easy for me to pick a book before I set off for dreamland. Well, most of my books on my shelf are kids and teen books because my sister bought most of them for me when I was younger. As I grew older, I added in more serious and sophisticated books! I have a lot of Enid Blytons, then there's Harry Potter, Jane Eyre(took it from my sis!), Diana Wynne Jones', Sweet Valleys(I don't read them anymore but they're still there in case I want to read them again), a few classics, and one Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. Yeah, I know it's quite a poor variety of books. My sister has more serious books on her shelves, so I will browse through her occasionally. And I also like having books in my room. They're better than any ornamental decoration.

As for me, I don't really collect "educational" or "informative" books. I mostly collect fiction. The ones I have a lot of are children's books by Roald Dahl, Beverly Cleary, Enid Blyton, and a lot more. I also collect classics like Frankenstein, or ones by HG Wells and Charles Dickens. I also share some inspirational books with my sister.

I am building up my collection of novels by Emile Zola. His Les Rougon-Macquart set. They are brilliant and very powerful stories. I also have novels by other classic writers and the more modern writers John Irving and Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I have a load of cooking books that are covered in dust and some motivational books which I can never be bothered to read!!!

But that's 90% of what is in my collection. Sadly, right now most of my collection is out in boxs in the sheds. Last time I actually COUNTED I had over 5000 - many signed.

I'd say we've got a good start on a library! my wife is a bibliophile. we've got three bookshelves, five shelves each, and each shelf has got probably, 50 books on it. we stack them on top of each other, where the book is flat on the shelf and so on. That doesn't count the hardbacks we keep separately, or the childrens books that we have for our son. We've got a little bit of everything with the exception of bodice ripping romance novels. Horror, adventure, thriller, comedy, plays, but what we've got a whole lot of are Dean Koontz, NOra Robers, Lincoln/Child, and brian lumley.
