Why do we eat?

I read in an article that some factors why we gain weight are our reasons why we eat. We should only eat when we are hungry but sometimes if not often, we don't follow that rule. We have other reasons why we eat and me I eat not only when I'm hungry but also when I'm bored and depressed. I should really stop that bad habit.
How about you, why do you eat? (Other than because you are hungry).

i always eat when i'm hungry..if we eat when we are not hungry..,it leads us to disease..we should keep our body fit as much as possible..so we should eat whenever we are hungry..and not at the other times...

I make it a point not to eat when I a depressed, as I tend to overeat then. I would just confine myself to my room and listen to music in such cases. Though not successfully observed so far, my resolution is to eat only at regular intervals and to eat only the sufficient amount. I go for a balanced amount. I still need to fight a few inches. My ideal weioght must be 75 kilos and and I have 79 kilos just now.
