How many guitars do you have?

Just a *few* guitars - This is just a selection of the guitars currently in our back room

Ok, it sounds a daft question but my partner currently owns 14 guitars. We have a*guitar mountain* and, together with amps, speakers, rack systems, etc., the back bedroom has gone from being a guest room to a music room. He has some very expensive gear, ranging from a Gibson Les Paul to a Fender Lonestar Stratocaster. He does play them all, only a few ever leaave the room for gigging however, the rest are purely for home use. I wonder, all you guitarists out there, how many do you have and what are they?

Ahhhhhh good! I wish I had a lot of guitars, amps and stomp boxes... but I know this will stay a dream! I own two guitars (Stagg and Squier), three stomp boxes (two Boss and one Behringer), one amp (Laney), one digital multifx (Digitech).

Oh my God, how much gear! Squier is better for not so heavy genres (blues-rock). When it comes to hard & heavy, my Stagg guitar is better.

I know the one guitar he really wants is a Gretsch White Falcon, however they are so expensive but so beautiful.

The Fender Squiers are great guitars, I am learning on one of my partners at the moment. He has around 17 Boss pedals, plus a 12 hit pedal board, Marshall Head, 2 4 x 12 speakers, Mesa Boogie Triaxis and a Mesa Boogie 20:20 and we have another Marshall amp in the garage plus a Marshall bass amp. I joked with him when we went to see Iron Maiden that his set up was almost as big :-)

Oh,alas I don't play guitar as much as I did when I was in college and that was a bit long ago...I still have my very first guitar which is an acoustic classical...I used to have a 1957 Fender Jazzmaster that I had to give up...an no it wasn't worth much...thought I'd get a zillion dollars for it, but because early on I got adjustments to it it wasn't worth much to sell since it didn't have all the original parts to it..Now wish I didn't give it up so easily--if anything for sentimental reasons

My partner would love a '57 Fender, regardless of the adjustments. He is such a collector, there are way too many guitars in the back room now :-). Have you considered picking it up again?

Darn, sorry hun.

Wish I could...Its gone though... :-( Besides if I could get it back I would probably now have to spend a small fortune as the guy did a lot of major readjustments on it--so I would have to re-compensate for the money he spent fixing it up

I have one...holding it for my b/f (that's possibly on his way out) that was my ex husband's (I bought his old ones). I don't know how many he has (my ex though had about 6 or 8 plus assorted basses). Nothing expensive (mostly amps--now THAT could be where he put the money). This is a Fender 12-string electrical acoustical (ok, basically it's an acoustical 12-string that can be plugged into an amp).

Jay used to have a Fender 12 string electro-acoustic, he sold it last year when he bought his Martin 12 string. LOL I get where you are coming from with the costs too hun.

He also had an assortment of higher-end equipment--gads, if he had held onto a few more years, we'd have been quite ok! This is his old guitar; I bought 4 or 5 from him after he left, as well as our daughter's old sax (which I bought for her, then was reimbursed and bought back again). He's had 1000's in equipment (lots of amps, including some rare ones). He's quite knowledgeable but could not translate that into a job to support his family!

Oh, you're partenr is absolutely addicted to guitars! But you know, it's okay because guitars make a good collection. Anyway, I don't own any guitars because I don't play. But a close friend of mine has 3 guitars currently and she still looks at guitars that are on sale.
20 Feb 07
LOL he is definitely addicted and he plays them all very well. Thank you for your response.

Dear, you're not daft at all! I personally don't play (my fingers were too short for piano, flute and violin, so do you think I'll frustrate myself even more by attempting the guitar? ;) Right now, I have one, an eletric Fender acoustic (it's wired to plug into the amp)--a 12-string. I'm still waiting for the boyfriend to buy the damn thing and get it out of my living room already! I'm (for about 12 more minutes or so) the girl friend of a guitar player, and the ex-wife of a wanna-be guitar player (he was good, but never actually finished many songs before pounding his head in frustration--long story!).

You know only too well what musicians can be like with their guitars then hun :-) My partner had a Fender electro-acoustic 12 string but he sold it last year in order to fund the purchase of his Ovation acoustic.

I loved to sing from a young age. The story about my guitar is quite sad. I only owned one and I was too sad to get another one. When I was 16 years old my parents bought me a guitar for my birthday because I waited years for one. Then six months later we moved to Greece and my Mum gave my guitar away to my cousin. I cried and cried, for no reason she just gave it away. I felt so empty and sad I never got another one. But one day maybe when I have time I may buy one again and try to learn.

It is very sad hun, perhaps you could get another guitar now and start to learn to play

before hubby & i got married, we were into the studio business wherein bands would rent it before their gigs so we've had 4 guitars, amps, monitors, mikes, keyboards, drums, etc. but we have to let everything go, including the bass guitar, fender strat, Gibson. 1 classical guitar was smashed by his angry sister. What's left is just 1 classical guitar.

My partner wants to do this hun, and is trying to get me to convert the garage into a studio. I am very tempted, it would mean that all his gear would be in one place :-)

None persoanlly, but my partner has three: His Bass Guitar, an Electric Guitar, and a battered old Acoustic Guitar. He also has lots of other musicy things like an amp (for his Bass), microphones & stand, a 4 track recorder and other mixery type thing, and a keyboard. He's trying to change our middle bedroom into a music room!

LOL! My boys would move in with you ina flash! My 5 year old wants a drum kit and guitar! I think your music room would be his idea of heaven! As of yet he doesn't own any guitars, but his lil sister does have a toy one that plays the wiggles! *shudder* I hate them!

You should always keep hold of your first guitar, my partner still has his and although it doesn't get played much these days, it is still very special to him.

Wow! that's one uncommon hobby he has, collecting guitars...well, part of the reasons why people aren't collecting guitars is the price itself... lol guitars are pretty expensive to have for a collection... :P well, I planned of getting one a couple of years back when I was learning playing guitar..I just borrowed my friend's back then when I have my guitar practice...I thought I would be getting one when I can already play a couple of songs...but god, learning guitar wasn't easy and soon enough I gave up.. lol so i ended up with no guitar at all... :P but my boyfriend now has one, and he plays pretty well... all i could do now is to listen to guitar music and not tuch any of those strings.. lol
17 Mar 07
Thanks hun, the scary thing is that every single guitar in the collection is played and/or gigged. My guy regards them as tools of his trade these days. I'm hoping that we might be able to re-organise the house so that all the music gear will be in one room

I have some guitars too. Actually, in my opinion there are no such thing as too many guitars, only too small apartments. So, I have currently 5 guitars, but I'm always looking for new one, just too bad that they cost money;) Gibson Gothic Explorer(my baby!) Epiphone LP Attr sunburst LP Landola Acoustic Peavey Predator Ibanez 4 str. Bass

My guy has been after a Gibseon Gothic Explorer for a while now, but money is tight right now. We spotted a gorgeous Pacific Blue Telecaster last week, but the price tag is too steep.

I have 3 acoustic guitars but only one was left. My first guitar broke just last year, the bridge of my other acoustic guitar has to be repaired, the 3rd was just given by an old friend :) My dream guitar is a Fender acoustic and Fender electric guitar of any model.
