I think kids should read as much as possible. A good way to get kids into reading would be to have them see you reading. and read to them. Then as they get older like have them read to you.

I don't think that there should be a limit on how much they can read. As long as they are doing their homework, let them read as much as they want to. It's always a good thing if a child actually wants to read, so why discourage it? I read as much as I wanted when I was younger and it did a lot for me.

I beelieve their heads and hold more than we know. Once a child learned to read, they are reading everything in sight and storing that in their mind.
I don't think there should be a set reading amount for kids. They should be able to read at their leisure as adults do. If you teach your child healthy reading habits, they will pick up books and read on their own. If you say you have to read X amount of time a day and the child is not a reader or doesn't see you following the practice as well, you will turn the child off to reading.

I love to read; so do my kids. We all go through phases where there are books that we can't put down ... and then phases where there just doesn't seem to be anything interesting to read. So I tend to just go with the flow :)
I think kids let you know when they need downtime; it's just a matter of being receptive to their cues.

I think two hours in the morning and two hours in the night is appropriate timings for children to read.
