Its not yucky to a dog. DId you know that dogs have 14 TIMES moresuface area in their noses than we do? Their ability to smell supercedes their ability to SEE. So to them, sniffing is how they see their world. Which is why my dogs have their noses to the ground when we are out for a walk - they're just looking around. So sniffing is NOT yucky to them, it's how they check things out and make sure everything is OK. And since doggies don't use toilet paper, sometimes they need to clean up by licking. We think it's gross, but they have more bacteria in their mouth to deal with the fact that sometimes they need to lick there. SO no, it isn't yucky. If they didn't do that sometimes, then it WOULD get yucky.

I agree with danny above.
I think this is where the saying "Dog Breath" has come from!!!
Its not a pleasant thing to see, especially when they come up and lick your hand or face afterwards. Gross!!

hahaha no I don't even have a dog. I was going to ask my cat why she licks her butt instead of wiping it with the tissue I gave her but of course she can't explain it to me. I think animals live very low maintenance, no tissue, no towel, no soap, furs as clothes, how sweet!
