Which ones do you prefer? I like the tampones as they keep you clean and descreat.

I'm a pad fan. I think it has a lot to do with the way we are brought up. My mother put the fear of god in me about tampons when I was younger as she knew someone who ended up with toxic shock syndrome. Although I have used tampons a few times (when I wanted to go swimming or something) I tend to take them out as soon as I'm finished swimming and revert to using my pads. It's just more comfortable for me, probably because it's what I'm use to. And I'm always terrified of putting the tampon in wrong, lol, although I've been assured many times that this is next to impossible.

i thought that too, about putting it in wrong and it can happen. i used pads for so long, the first time i tried a tampon it felt wiered. but now i like them. pads are not bad. so you stick with what makes you feel good. thanks for responding

I have to go with pads, I really like stayfree overnight, their long and thin and have those little wings to stay in place. They have a really good scent also. I've just alway's not liked the idea of tampons cuz of the toxic shock syndrome and the idea of that nasy stuff just staying plugged up in there! But everyone has their own preference. A lot of women like tampons I'm sure, it's all what women prefer.

I haven't used pads in years. In fat the only time I have used them in the last 10 years or so is right after having my children. I prefer tampons because they are discreet, as you said, and I feel cleaner. Unlike basically sitting in the mess all day.

Yeah, LOL or that gooey feeling. Yuck. And I never did like wondering if it was completely in place or if had shifted and I would come home with a mess all over my panties. Yuck! Nightmares! So now if I feel a mess, it in fact is a mess...because I have leaked through LOL. But that doesn't happen anymore-or hasn't happened in a very long time.

I changed my pads really often, so I never really felt that way. Except, when you are sitting down, and you stand up...suddenly a flood just took place.

i always use tampons because pads just make me way too uncomfortable, i cant get used to them no matter how many times i try, it feels like wearing a diaper and drives me absolutly crazy. the only time ive been able to put up with wearing pads is after i had both of my kids and had no other choice and it drove me crazy to wear them. I know some people feel like tampons are uncomfortable but as long as i use regular absorbancy and not anything larger then i dont even feel them and sometimes wearing the slenders made for teens can help if the others are to large. Its just a preference thing and what you get used to i guess

I was a tampon person until I discovered a menstrual cup. Now I don't have to use either. I have been using a cup for almost 2 years and have nothing but praise for it. There are many reasons that bring ladies to use a cup but for me it was to stop the garbage created by disposable products. If you'd like more information about this product there are a two that I am aware of in North America - The Diva Cup (my choice) www.divacup.com The Keeper www.keeper.com There is also a forum dedicated to the discussion of these products and I found it very useful in making my decision and helping me get accustomed to the cup. community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups

I would definitely choose tampons but the problem is my flow is too heavy for me to use a pad for the first 2-3 days. So for those days I must suffer with a pad. For those who say that they feel like diapers, well have you ever tried the thin ones? They feel a lot better, not as good as tampons but better than the big bulky ones.

well, if you have or not had children, if not after you have it will slow down and maybe be more comftable for you.

I used to have to wear two OVERnight pads at one time, to contain the 'problem.' Yasmin, a birth control that also helped out my PCOS, helped shorten the severity of my period.

When I used a tampon, I had to use a pad as well. So I don't waste the effort of the tampon anymore.

Feeling discreet is a plus. When I wore a pad in high school, I made sure never to wear white.

I hate to say it but I have to use both. I've been using both since I was 30. It really bites. I'm hoping I'll be all done with it in the next couple of years.

Well I prefer pads. I was never able to feel comfortable in a tampon. Some actually hurt. I have used them on occassion but I hate having to do so because I can't do anything while wearing one. Forget sitting and even walking can be miserable. I'll stick with pads.

You're absolutely right. Walking, sitting...forget it. Just stand in one spot and occasionally shift your weight. : )

I honestly prefer using tampons. I feel more comfortable quite honestly using tampons compared to pads. I think I prefer using tampons over pads because I find when I wear them they are much more comfortable, but at the same time rather discrete than pads in my opinion. I know when I was younger I used to wear pads quite often. But I found more or less that each time I would wear one.. That I was wearing a diaper. I also found that when I would use a pad that it would slip out of place sometimes to. This led to me feeling rather self-conscious after a while. I remember when I was younger I used to always worry if anyone could tell that I had one on.. Not only we're tampons uncomfortable for me.. They also at the same time made me worry that someone could tell I was wearing one all the time.. I hated this feeling of worrying about this all of the time.. I also remember when I was younger how I found when I would wear pads.. That I would seem to cramp up even more each time I would wear one.. I don't find this happens as much when I wear tampons, compared to when I had used to wear pads. I also found when I wear tampons that they do not smell or leak compared to how a pad would. I know when I wore a pad in the past.. That I would worry that someone could smell the scent of blood off of me.. It made me feel even more uncomfortable knowing that they may be able to do so.. With a tampon I don't feel I worry about this further more anymore.. I also must say that I love how undetectable tampons are quite honestly compared to pads as well. In conclusion.. I would have to say that my preference most likely would be tampons.. In general I find tampons to be so much more comfortable, but at the same time less messy. I feel if a person uses them properly, you don't even end up feeling them. I know each time I use tampons how I would feel so much more cleaner, but also refreshed. I know that.. When I would wear a pad I would feel disgusting all day long. And having to go to school when you are growing up with wearing a pad when that time of month rolls around.. You already feel self conscious about things.. Having to wear a pad back then I had felt like I was even more self conscious about having to wear this as well.. With a tampon I have no worries, I don't feel so self conscious on a regular basis anymore.. I know that I wish I would have quite honestly used tampons a lot sooner than I had. I wish I would have used tampons when I was still in school & so much more younger. I feel it would have made my life a lot easier in the long run. Either way I find pads to be very uncomfortable & I find they make walking, but also moving around a lot more uncomfortable, as well as much harder. I like tampons a lot better because they are so much more comfortable, but also convenient at the same time. All in all I know I will be using tampons for years to come! I don't think I'll ever go back to using pads in all honesty anytime soon! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

neither. I use a mooncup, which is a re-usable menstrual cup. it's cleaner, healthier, less likely to leak, less dangerous (no TSS risk) cheaper in the long run and better for the environment. it can also reduce painful periods.

loads of information and testimonials at www.mooncup.co.uk they are availiable worldwide, often from sites selling eco friendly products. other makes are divacup and the keeper. from what I've seen, I'm quite happy to say, I think the mooncup is the best of them. one of the others was latex, which I think may not be so clean and can cause some people reactions. and the other didn't look so comfy a shape. basically the mooncup is a medical grade silicon cup, a little like a wineglass without a base in shape. the stem can be trimmed to make it comfortable. a lot of people remove the entire stem. I did. it sits quite low, and because it collects it inside, rather than by absorbtion, it doesn't dry you out so you feel healthier using it. it holds much more than a tampon, so you only need to empty it between 1-3 times a day. I usually empty it morning and evening. you sterilise it by boiling at the beginning and end of the cycle, and you just rinse it during. because it's silicone it's not too likely to hold bacteria. you can also, unlike tampons, put them in before you've actually started, as it's not drying, so good if you're due, but are going out.

You have certainly provided a wealth of information about the UK version. I didn't even think about using it before I was due. What a great suggestion. I love my Diva cup and have been using it for almost 2 years.
