I recently had a family member spend 3 days in the hospital in a large metropolitan city in the U.S. The diagnosis was a severe infection but there was no surgery, no consults with specialists, no intensive care etc...she received IV fluids, pain medication and antibiotics. The hospital bill was over $10,000.! Fortunately for this relative, insurance covered it all except for the $200. co-pay. But what if this person had no insurance...what would have happened...would she have died possibly? This is a serious situation in this country! I would like to open this discussion topic...Should we have socialized medicine in the country? There are serious problems with the health care system in the U.S....what are possible solutions?
