On Saturday I received survey to choose which of the two brands of chocolate listed were my favorite. Out of boredom and being a chocoholic I responded and made my choice to receive a reward. So I chose my reward, 10 lbs of the chocolate which I thought great so I can share it with all my friends. BUT then came the pages of the survey after going through them all I realized I had to purchase one of the offers so I picked " SEATTLE COFFEE DIRECT.COM, as you can see in the photo it was for coffee & grinder just $9.00. YEAH RIGHT!
Today (Tuesday) I checked my credit card and it had already been billed for $34.00 from that company. I called Visa (another signal I should have paid attention to) they informed I could not do anything aboutit as it had been paid. Should have realized when the company did not list Discover Card as a payment choice I was making a mistake as they protect online buys.
I called the company, and was told that the extras $25.00 was shipping and handling charges...I said that is not on the order form ...was told I should have checked terms of agreement, also not on the order form, please cancel my order..too late it has been shipped..bull-crap Sunday & Monday were holidays...I asked what can I do..told refuse delivery..what if the mailman just leaves it in my mail box...answer not much.
Result ..I am pissed! Learned to follow my own instincts don't order online unless using Discover Card as they take care of these kind of deals.
SCAMMED Any advice on what I can do would be appreciated.

Oh but yes you can receive your money back! First whether the mailman places the package at your house or not, you just march it down to the post office unopened and return it! Then you contact Visa and let them know. Then you go online to Visa and you can fill out a dispute form, then you go to Better Business Bureau online and turn in a complaint on Visa and the other place. When all of this is done you can get your money back. Stay on the company after you refuse the order.

This is exactly what I did when I was ripped off by buying something from ebay.
Tell the company that you bought the product from that you will file a complant to the BBB, as mentioned by wmg2006. This might make them nervious and allow you to get your money back.
Good luck!

Sad to say but if you send the package back you still might nave to pay for shipping and handling.Make sure you get a tracking # to keep track of it.This way if Seattle Coffee say you did not return it you have proof.PLEASE make sure you call your credit card company and tell them not to take any more payments out for this company.Seattle Coffee might be one of those places that charges you monthly for coffee or a membership. Also call Seattle and tell them to cancel your membership. As to prevent any more charges on your card.I would also call Seattle back and ask for a superviser if he or she doesn't help go one step higher.I have gotten out of alot of predicaments just by being nice and talking the talk.Good Luck to you.

I have started to respond to these type of surveys and then when it says you must complete this company's offer I just close out because I am too cheap right now and I guess that is a great thing to be with this type of scams. I am soooo sorry that it happened to you. Please let us know what and if you get this item. Thanks for posting this for others.

You can write "refused, return to sender" on the box when it arrives and give it to your mailperson or take it to the post office. They have to ship it back to the sender at no charge to you. Unfortunately, you then have no guarantee that the company will actually refund the charges, since they can say that it never arrived back at their warehouse.
I'm going through something similar right now. I just received a dvd from columbia house that they claim I ordered in NOVEMBER! I wrote them a nasty email because their policy says you cannot return anything for credit past 45 days. They wrote me back and assured me I would be credited if I returned the dvd. I'm not holding my breath :(
I hope you can get your money back. I'm sorry you got taken.

This kind of cheating is not only happening in obscure sights, but even in recognised online auction sites this kind of scam happens, an example being a X product is priced at $1, but the postage and handling is extra, and the amount is never mentioned, and if u are a sucker enough to order it the postage and handling may even go up to $100. The only advice is be careful in future.

I am sorry this happened to you. These shipping chrges are often hidden in the terms of agreement. I ordered a t-shirt online, it was a made with a new fiber "bamboo" and I had not seen any bamboo clothes anywhere else. The T-shirt was $19 but when I checked my statement I was charged an extra $16 for shipping and handling. This was also not on the order form. When the T-shirt arrived it had been sent by regular mail that cost $ 2.34.
One of your respondent told you how to get your money back from Visa. It usually works if you refuse the parcel and demand a credit from Visa. They will charge back the company and credit your account if you dispute the item. Good luck.

oohh I never do stuff like that just for this reason...when you read the fine print (and there always is you usually have to look for it though) its never as simple as it originally seems...major scams things like that are so I avoid them at all costs....I'm surprised though that your CCd company wasnt willing to be more helpful..

Thanks Lakota but the US Postal service will not give a any kind of a receipt for refusing to accept a package. So I took it to UPS got a receipt and will also get a receipt that they have accepted it back. I cost me $8.00 but I'll get $34.00 back. I'll be out $8.00 but I have learned a good lesson.

I'm really sorry to hear that, and always get quite angry when I read such stories. The dishonesty of some people is sometimes hard to believe. We shouldn't have to be so careful and check the terms of agreement with magnifying glass. Unfortunately, this is the only thing we can do to avoid falling for such scams.
You have all my sympathy, even if it doesn't help much...

Sad but true. You poor lil soul. I hate to be even a tiny bit ripped off. Please remember the old saying...
If it seems too good to be true it probably is .
Just get into the habit of not responding to these things.
If you can't afford to lose just stay out of the game.
I get sucked into things too but as soon as they want my credit card details i get cold feet. LOL.
Ity's a big ole scary world out there.

This happened to me too. When I got my package from Seattle Coffee I thought well, my own fault for not reading the fine print. Except I really tried to find any loopholes in those survey products because I did not want to get into some monthly deal. Then I got the next month's package which I never ordered. This one I am definately sending back, registered even if it costs me some money, and disputing charges with my credit card company. Those online surveys are awful. Mine was for a trip to Las Vegas, but I just couldn't get through it because the farther I got into it, the more offers they wanted me to select and most of them were not free.

Actually you were not scammed.. you just did not read the terms on condition which is on the top of the "ORDER NOW" button.. I went to the site and read the Terms and condition.. it says there that your initial order will be delivered 10 days upon your order date.. and guess what its a subscription..you'll receive "2 coffee selection of the month" every month, that will cost you $12.50 per 12-oz bag of coffee plus a small shipping and handling fee..yah right!!!does small means $25.00 shipping and handling fee.. and this will be billed to your credit card every month for the rest of your life.....
But ofcourse I would let that happen to you...there are many options...
1st is to call the coffee company 888-217CAFE or 888-2172233 and tell them this...
"I WAS MISLEAD AND I DONT WANT THAT PRODUCT THAT YOU'RE SENDING ME...CANCEL IT. I DONT WANT TO PAY FOR IT..AND I AM NOT AUTHORIZING YOU TO CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD.. IF YOU CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD I WILL SUE YOU FOR CREDIT CARD FRAUD..." beleive me this works..if the agent refuse, ask for a supervisor and tell him the same thing. of course before you do that introduce yourself and give necessary information being ask by the agent.. beleive me this thing works.. I came from Outbound sales.. I use to sell things on the phone when customer insist they dont want the product and they dont have any intensions of paying for the product, the sale is automatically invalid, they will cancel the subscription..tell them you were not satisfied and your not interested..
remember to record the date and time that you called the toll free number...for all calls are recorded and incase you or they take you to court you'll have proof. they cant deny it..its on the system..even your long distance provider will have a record on their system that you gave that company a call...you can also inform your card issuer of what you did ..card issuers have memos on their system. if you inform them and the charging does not stop you can report it as fraud... and guess what ..credit card companies have policies about fraud.. that victims are not held liable for any of the fraud charges on the account....
2nd
If the toll free number does not work call your credit card issuer.. you can either dispute or report the sale as fraud.. card issuer will tell you its just a dispute because you aggreed to the terms and conditon.. but tell them you were mislead and the cancellation toll free number is not working... if card issuer dont want to dispute the sale and tells you they cant do anything about it accept it.. tell them that you'll just pay for the sale and insist that you want to cancel you credit card subscription.. girl the issuer will offer you a better interest rate for your card.. could even be 0% interest rate for a year just to keep you...and then after that do the last option...
The last but easiest option would be to accept the fact that you have been fooled by this company...and call your credit card issuer and inform them that your card has been stolen from your wallet...dont worry because the credit card company will send you a new card with a different card number.. in that way all the automatic charges on your old card will be stopped..the only hassle is if you have other automatic charges on your card you have to call each and every one of them to provide them with your new credit card number so they could start charging you again..
its either you get want you want to cancel your subscription with the coffee company or get a better credit card with better interest rate and lose the subscription..
p.s. if i were you.. i'd keep the initial order and grider coz if you ask for a full refund they will ask you to send back the grinder and the unoppened coffee and you'd have to pay for the shipping and handling fee.

even if the mailman leaves it on your doorstep. do not open the package. write on the outside of the package "refused, return to sender" and take it to the post office or give it to your mailman. I did that with a book club order and it worked. I was not charged anything. not even postage. I`m sorry this happened to you.

I do not know what you can do now that this is done. I would go a step futher than Discover card, I would pick up a gift card type credit card, costs about $3.50 for $100.00, then when people try to do this or even some ongoing membership, which I suspect your coffee may be, the damage is definitely limited and no personal info is given. I get these cards at my local grocery, from a rack.

Personally I don't think it is worth your while returning the parcel. Even if you are not charged the return shipping there is no gaurantee that the company will refund their cost of shipping to you, as they would be out of pocket. I know it is very upsetting to be scammed like this, but don't throw good money after bad. Accept it as lesson learned.

I hate those darn things. They're not surveys they are just scams to make people spend money and get ripped off doing it. I'm so sorry you got caught in it. I would do as the others suggested and return it. I would also try and work more on the credit card company. Don't take no for an answer, ask to speak to a supervisor if you have to. They should be more helpful than they sound like they were. I get those stupid scams everyday in my email, I just delete them. Real survey companies don't ask you to buy anything.

Sorry about your experience do exercise more care about what you buy online. Always read the small prints if available before placing your order and best of all observe the cardinal rule-if it's to good to be true then it's simply not true.
