What are the advantages of looking at pictures in comparison with reading books?

Now more and more kids like looking at pictures like comic strips, strip cartoons,movies and TV instead of reading books, they think looking at pictures is easier than reading books, they can save time to know the contents as well. what's your opinion?

Shredder - I use this shredder on a daily basis to get rid of any paperwork that has my personal information on it. It will help protect us from identity theft.
I really do not see any advantages of looking at pictures instead of reading a book. I think reading the book will be more useful and beneficial to a person, whether a child or an adult. Looking at pictures is easier for kids as they may not understand all the words used in the book. I think reading a book will help them with their vocabulary as well as knowing the story behind the character or characters.
