Veil of muslim woman

Do you think that veil is necessary for muslim woman. Recently I was watching the programme in which the muslim scripture teacher were telling the importance of veil. They told that it reduces the eve teasing. lol!!! how did the tradition of veil started, see what reason they told. around 14 century when the beautiful muslim woman used to to market then some bad people used to eve tease. So to escape such thing the tradition of veil came in existence. lol!!! isn't it like punishing victim instead of guilty?

You are so right, it is punishing the victim instead of the aggressor. What I don't understand is the term eve teasing. Surely it should be safe for any woman to show her face in public without being molested. What Muslim women have explained to me is that the veil protects them so that men other than their husbands will not get any impure thoughts. Same thing. Why should a woman be responsible to protect men from their own impure thought.
There are many Muslim countries in the world where women only cover their hair, never their face. I think covering the face is a cultural tradition in some countries that has nothing to do with religion. Also think we are long past the 14th century, many things have changed since then.
