I don't understand the big deal? Its not so scarey to get in front of people and talk. I see people at school that are afraid to get in front of class to read their projects or work. Why is this?

I did had this problem when i was in 6th grade.bt still i was really fond of debating and givin speech.Wen my english teacher came to me n sd either i can focus on the message n benefit the listener or either i can focus on myself n become nervous n spoil the game. She also added tht nervousness is a choice n we all have the power to make the right choice. Its just that we have to bring in the power to move out the nervousness.Or either u can use the trick from the movie Maid in manhattan where ralph feines uses paper clip to overcome nervousness.....:)

I feel stupid when I do, not so much scared a little nervous maybe but I feel like I'm being judged by everyone and that's what really bugs me about public speaking.

i think we are taught to be self-consciousness as a child and this inhibiots many of us. Its said that it is better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it. However, as a teacher I often speak in front of 300 to 400 people without any trouble so i guess its just a matter of confidence

I was so scared doing that when I was in highschool. But when I got to college I was more aggressive and would go into debate forum if necssary. I have no idea why so dramatic change. I was not always like that at work, since I do need the money. Now I still need the money but since I have my own business, I don't let fear get in the way anymore. I think people just give in to fear that others will reject them if they say anything wrong, sometimes it's also family environment where the parents tend to discourage their children by being short tempered.

I don't get scared when I speak in front of people, but I do get nervous. I was always taught to be self-conscious..you know, 'think before you speak' 'children should be seen, not heard' etc. I have spoken to large groups of students and peers (300-400) before and I do speak regularly, but I don't like it. A part of me is worried that they might ask a question that I don't have an answer to or that I will mess up and make a fool of myself.

I don't like to do it. I think for a lot of people it's just the thought of having all those people looking at you, and if you make a mistake etc everyone will see it. Some people are naturally shy and just don't like being the centre of attention - while others thrive on it.
