What do you think about the Matrix trilogy?

I have hardly come across a movie or series of movies that has triggered off more extreme responses than the Matrix trilogy. It has been loved and adored by many while being lambasted for taking popular philosophy too far, by many. I personally liked the concept that the entire world is not actually real, but only a program. Being a programmer, I probably could relate to it better, but most of my non programming pals called the movie trash. What are your feelings about this trilogy?
