I have two turtles. One red eared slider and one western painted turtle. The red eared slider is a 2 1/2 year old female and is cool but she would bite off your finger if she could! The western painted
turtle is 1 1/2 year old and he likes to eat any thing that moves.

I currently have a russian tort. and a red eared slider. It's funny because I feed my slider goldfish and he always .. always .. keeps 1 as a friend. Usually when I change the water though I forget he saved a fish and it goes down the drain and I feel bad. But the fish he has now is a normal goldfish about a year old, they got into a fight when the fish first joined the tank and the turtle took a bite out of his tail. But it's since grown back and they're best friends. I have to be the only person whose pet has their own pet.

I think the box turtle is totally awesome, but some people do not consider it a 'turtle' but rather a 'tortoise' so I am not sure myself where it fits in. I do know that they are consider very intelligent, being beaten in intelligence only by the 'wood turtle' apparently. I have had many turtles and tortoises and I thing they all have something unique to offer...and some of course are more difficult to care for than others. Painted turtles are also remarkable pets. I had one that started as a mere 1 inch and he was, within a few years, about 10 inches from one end of his shell to the other. I had to donate him at that point to a kind vetrinarian who was able to keep him in a large aquarium where he was happy with a few other Eastern Painted turtles.

I like all turtles although painted turtles are probably my favorites. I have had several turtles over the years, including painted turtles, box turtles, and snapping turtles.
We rescued the baby snappers from an excavation site. In fact, some of them weren’t even hatched yet when they were rescued. I liked taking care of the snappers when they were little, but don't think I would want them for house pets once they get full grown.

I can just picture you, 7 months pregnant with a hissing mamma snapper on your fishing line. That must have been some sight! I bet it would have been scarry.
Anyway, none of my baby snappers hissed at me at all. Of course these were rescued when first born, so they were used to me from the beginning. Others may be different.

I have two Eastern River Coo-ters which I think look kind of plain. I think I would like a painted turtle just because they look more interesting.
