I have many cats and there are a few that are for a specific reason. One I call snotface and thats because she had a cold when she was a kitten and she always had a snotface. Another I call Lucky because she is very lucky to be alive. She had many problems at birth. I didn't think she would survive. Then there is Prince. He thinks he is royalty. We already had a cat named King before so we had to go with Prince.

it really depends. I named Oliver that because he was an orphan. He was a week old, his eyes weren't even open. I'll say we don't use the shortened name Ollie, it's almost always Oliver - or Ol-LI'-VER when we're upset with him. Taj is actually a shortened version of his name that is Ta Shuah, that means Walks on Snow in chinese, because he has white feet. I named The Doctor not only because I was into the show, but because he had blue eyes & stripped pants. Rygel got his name because as a kitten he looked kind of like the muppet on Farscape by that name from behind & he really liked to eat, like his namesake. I named Ping & Pong just to be temp names, but they really are good, close brothers and when they were younger, always together.

I've always chosen the names of my cats based on their cat-sonalities. lol
Some of the cats I've had haven't really had names that are that creative. Like Tom, who's your basic, run of the mill tom cat (stereotypical short haired orange male). My favorite cat I had growing up was named Snowball because when I got her, she was mostly white. But she was a Siamese and the name wasn't quite so fitting after she started getting her points (hey, go easy on me. I was in kindergarten! LOL)
I have two names for cats that were my all time favorites, though. The first was for a black cat I got shortly after the Karate Kid movie came out. I dubbed him Mr. Meowgi.
The other was for an absolutely beautiful stray kitten who showed up at the house one day. He was a gorgeous, floofy kitty who looked like he could be a full blooded Himalayan. Poor guy, though, had some litter box issues. He never managed to do a great job getting out of the litter box without kicking tons of litter all over the place. Well, before my family and I had noticed he had this litter issue, we had chosen the name Wooly for him. But after seeing what he did *every* time he exited the litter box, we decided to extend his name a bit. From that time on, he was officially known as Wooly Flung Pooh.

Most of our characters were named after characters in tv shows or movies. For example our one cat who is orange and has burnt orange stripes we named Oliver after Oliver and Company. He looked a lot like the kitten in that. We have one we named Angel after the character Angel in the tv show of the same name. He likes to protect my neice and will guard her when she sleeps. Things like that.

My first cat was a tortoise shell. I couldn't think of a name so I asked by 8 year old cousin if he had any ideas. He came up with Cocoa. Then his younger sister got on the phone and she said she wanted to name my cat too - the same name as her brother gave her. So Cocoa she became. Then I got a white cat and named her Sugar, an orange one named Punkin, and a grey one who was named Pepper.
I like having a theme. I think it's cute.

When we first got our kitty we named her Lucifer because she was a little devil, always getting into things, knocking things off shelves, climbing curtains. But after a few weeks she settled down so we call her Lucy now. She is usually pretty good and is very "talkative" now. She's a really good cat.

Its good to hear that. Its interesting to know about the story behind our pet's name and I am glad Lucy has settled now.

When we went to look at our two kittens the first one who climbed into my lap was the male. He is a gray taby and was totally cuddly. I almost wanted to call him cuddles but then my daughter said that he looked so precious she just adored him and then I started saying he was precious as well. so we decided to call him Precious.
Now the female is a white with black spots and choosing a name for her was not as easy. My other daughter wanted to name her so I started just saying some names and when I said Alexis she saind that is it. When I named her it just seemed right.

We named our kitty Princess because when we brought her home she walked around like royality. We always try to give out pets names that fit their personality.

My first cat's name is Trina because it was pretty for a cat and I liked it. My new kitty's name is Lucy because she is orange and looked like a "Lucy"

I don't have my own cat but I heard people naming their pets on the basis of cuteness, furriness, colour, nature, favourite cartoon animal characters etc. If I had a cat I would name it Pushy inspired by kids rhyme.

My cat Champ, was a rescue cat. When I brought him home with me he was skin and bones and on deaths bed. I would not have taken him home with me if I did not work at a Animal Hospital. I brought him to work with me, where he stayed in Quarentine for a month, being force fed, and slowly back from recovery. When I brought him home with me, he was still contagious to other cats, but grew very fast. I named him Champ because he is a Champion. He got a second chance at life, and he fought hard for it, and made it. He beat his battle for life.

Lightning, who is pictured, was named not only for the nasty, rainy day he was born on but when he turned round 6wks old he was flying around the house non-stop attacking everything in his path.
My daughter named her cat when she was bout 1 1/2yrs old. She picked her up at a sale while we were garage saling and claim it as hers. Asked her what she was going to name her cat while she was watching Little Bear on tv. Wellllll guess what the name is? lol Lil' Bear!

her name's queen elizabeth. she christened one of the sofa chairs as her own, when there's a show on tv, whoever is occupying her chair needs to scoot over because she'll fight for it, claw and all. so we call her 'your highness' and from there we arrived at queen elizabeth.
