Spyware removal

Does anybody have any suggestions for free downloads of adware/spyware removal software. My computer is really ticking me off. For some reason I have four toolbars, they are all messed up, my computer is extremely slow, and i keep getting some stupid error that says windows must shut down now, then i get knocked off line.!!!!
