I am a junior studying Psychology in a university in NYC. I have recently been looking for internship opportunities in the Psychology field and have been having a very difficult time since I am an undergraduate. A lot of the positions that I have come across require that you already have a year of experience or that you already have your degree and I do not understand why there are so few opportunities for students who are looking for internships to better their chances of getting a job post graduation. I work at the counseling center at my university as a student aid and I have already been told by them that since I am a student at the university it would be unethical to have an internship where I would be helping to counsel my potential classmates. I am just very frustrated that there are so few internship opportunities for liberal arts majors. I am looking to go into the counseling Psychology field and would love to get an internship in that position. Is anybody a Psychology major/ Psychologist that could offer some help? Does anybody know of any positions /internships for psychology students in their area? I am willing to relocate if that means I can get an internship (which should show my dedication to obtaining a position). Any advice/help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Any other students going through the same thing should feel free to add on to this discussion. I think it is a major ongoing problem now-a-days. Companies refuse to hire you if you do not have the experience and you can not get the experience because you do not have a degree so what are you suppose to do?
