Have you heard about the new law that they want in California? No spanking or shaking anyone under the age of 18. The law first started out as a No Spanking children under the age of three. Which is understandable. I wasn't spanked until I was four. I live in California and my husband and I are divided on this. I want to spank our children, and he doesn't want our children to receive spankings.
I was a teacher for one year of kindergartens and sometimes a child needs a little tap on the bottom.
The person who created this bill has made changes to it. Now she wants the law to protect children under the age of 18 from being spanked or shaken by a parent. The shaking part is understandable to a degree. Infants, toddlers, and small children should never be shaken. I personally wouldn't see the reason to shake an older child, but who am I to dictate what another person does to their child? It isn't abuse.
I know where I stand with the issue. I don't they should make spanking illegal...

Shaking a child is child abuse. Doesn't matter what age. Shaking is dangerous even to an adult. So I am all for this. Shaking is ABUSE!
As for spanking, I don't agree that spanking is the answer and I'm just hoping this law gets passed down to every state. I don't think a child at any age should be spanked.
But I also don't feel a little tap is abuse. If I see a mother spanking her child on the bottom, I wont say anything about it. But shaking is another story. I would call the cops in a heart beat.

I grew up being spanked when I was misbehaving. I never felt that my parents were abusive in any way. Times are changing and corporeal punishment is being frowned upon, but maybe there should be some leeway. How much spanking is ok? How much is none? I personally think that a lot of kids nowadays are turning out to be quite bratty.

I hope this doesn't get too nsaty...but I think spanking is fine also. I certainly spank my kids when they need it. I don't beat them or shake them but a spaking every now and then does keep then in line-makes them behave. I think making it illegal is rediculous!!!
