Get rid of it by placing it up for adoption through the newspaper or Petco. Hamsters are horrible pets. They always end up really mean because they don't like to be handled. In my opinion, they should not even be sold at pet stores.

Originally my GF daughter was not to be allowed any petds because she kept begging fo them and would not listen to the fact that all animals including humans need their space, and we don't have the space for that. So one day when I was on the road, when I came home there was a hamster cage in the daughters room. I expressed that I will not buy any food for him and that she would bare ALL responsibilities. Well we all know how that went.

I dis agree. If you have time for them they can be wonderful although stinky pets. I have one I do not want because I am hardly home enough and it is really my daughters but she lost interest. It will bite if you have ANY trace of food on your hands and she would forget to wash up first so she got bit. i have not been bit and have to take care of it. I do not have time to get it out every day and handle it. i barly have time to give it the basic needs and keep it cleaned out also.
I can not get him out often as we have 2 cats and a dog that really want it bad. I have him in an aquarium so he can not escape, but if he did I would not have to worry about feeding and caring for it any more. The others would rid me of my responsibility. I had heard that you can take them to Petco, and they will adopt them out, not sell them, but give them for a donation to a charity they support with the funds I just heard this so do not know much more.
Just curious, how did you solve the problem? My boyfriend wants me to turn it lose out side, but i refuse!

Well I am a driver and was asleep getting ready to leave later that night so they didn't want to wake me up. Well after they got him in his cage a second time, with him still hissing, they took the cage outside and opened the small door on top of the cage. Well Mr. Hamster apparently jumped out again hissing and baring his teeth, ran off a little ways and(there are Hawks and Owls around here.) at last report of my GF daughter she saw a bird swoop down towards the ground. Although she did not see the hamster in flight, she no longer saw him on the ground either.
