I say OK as long as he remembers it will be with him for a long time so he should not have a huge one obvious and visible to all as it could affect a future prospective employer, a girlfriend, other peoples' opinion of him and it should not be a sign of racisism or any thing that might get him a bloody nose.

There aren't very many people who will stand up against my son. He's almost six and a half feet tall and very well built and has great self confidence. I have known kids to stand down quite fast rather than face him angry. Also, you should know, he's never beaten anyone up or even thrown a punch. He fights pyschologically and most anyone he has faced will give up.

Thanks for your BR and your son sounds like a young man to be proud of, as you seem to be!

I've told my teens no simply because as a teen it's a cool idea but you simply never know what they will choose to be when they "grow up" and a tattoo could be detrimental to a job position, etc. But personally, if you're okay with it... and he wants it... go for it.

My son is a drummer and he's totally into it. He's not just fooling around, he is very very serious about his music. He wants a simple black and white tatoo of the Pearl drum logo on one arm. I'm pretty sure he won't regret it. I went with him and signed when he decided to get two ears pierced too. He's very level headed and knows why he wants to do what he wants. I am thinking of getting something, maybe a butterfly or unicorn but I'm not sure where. My hubby likes tatoos on women. I'm a rebel anyway. LOL.

I say good for you. Its usually the mother who has problems with a kid getting a tattoo and the father usually is all for it. I think if you think it is ok then its ok. You are obviously going with him and I'm sure you wil make sure he doesn't get something he will regret later in life. I think it would be a great mother/son bonding experience.

I don't know where you live, but in California, you can not get tattoo'd if you are under 18, even if you have parental consent. Unless you intend him getting one in someone's house. If my child wanted to get one at 18, that's their choice, but before 18, their body still belongs to me, once I am not supporting them, go ahead put one on your forehead lol. Don't get me wrong, I have two tattoo's but I got them after I was of legal age and I paid for them myself. I wish I would have not gotten one of them, but back then I thought I knew what I was doing.

I would have to agree with your husband. What kids like at 16 they might not like at 20 and what they liked at 10 isn't what they are into now. Don't get me wrong I like tattoos I have one but am glad that I got it when I was older. This is something that will be there for life and he should be fully matured before making such a decision. Even though he seems mature at this point he hasn't truly lived yet.
