Soap Operas - why do women love them?

Can anybody explain to me why women love soap operas so much. When they talk about them it is as if they are talking about real life and their friends. Ohh did you see what Steve did to Kate?...... In UK we have Eastenders, it is so depressing. Emmerdale, so far fetched and there always seems to be some major disaster going on. There are so many magazines and articles about soaps. Also ones that tell you what will happen. Women will then still watch it - even though they know what is going to happen

On checking your profile, my observation is that you're a total cynic...lol. Therefore, I feel that if you have to ask this question then you won't understand or probably accept the answer. However in the true spirit of friendship and sharing I will tell you what I think. Women in general, are nurturers and very much in touch with their emotions. Certain women, not all, love fairy tales, romantic stories, anything cute and cuddly, chick flicks (we love to cry at these) and for some, soap operas. Personally, I love all the clothes, jewels, hairdos etc and that's just the men...kidding..lol. The whole romance, fantasy thing just makes me feel good. You'll probably discover that women who have love and laughter and a good man in their lives don't need it as much as those that don't. I'm generalising terribly and I do apologise for that but i find it difficult to express myself otherwise.

Hi I am not totally cynical - but since I have joined this site, I can't beleive how people believe anything that they are told or promised on the internet. I am cynical about all of the sites that are ripping people off and lying to them. I like to watch happy things also. But in the UK, most of the soaps are very depressing.
