My father was born in 1945 and he is 62 old now, but he has a bad habit in heavy smoking, he always smokes more than 20 cigarettes a day. For such an old man, that is too much to his health, so he often coughs in days and nights. I often advise him that smoking is very harmful to his health and suggest him quitting smoking, but he can't resist smoking after a short time of no cigarettes, he can't say good-bye to smoking drastically. Can you give me some advices about how to quit smoking?

I assume your father to be chain smoker and to get rid of his smoking, I suggest you to go in his way.
Start smoking with him, make challenge, tell him if you won't stop smoking I too will join you and smoke even more than you, might his love towards you help him stop smoking !
All the best.

That's absurd. I really don't think that you can really get anybody to quit smoking in such a manner. What if he too becomes a smoker in the attempt? It is a well documented fact that smoking starts small.
According to me, the only person who can really make a person to quit smoking is themselves. The motivation to quit smoking has to come from within. Why don't you try to involve him in some activities that require him to stay fit? Play shuttle-badminton or tennis with him. In time, he will realize that he can be fitter if he only quits smoking. That might even be the trigger to quit smoking. All the very best!
