Whats behind the concept of stars

As i am new to the MYlot community i still donot understand the funda of stars .. will some one kindly explain to me the funda behind the stars . Does it affect the earnings . Please do reply in fast to that i can mend my ways to get more stars

I guess it could help you in your earnings, Im also a newbie here and as far from my readings, a lot of people are so soncerned about it.
