I recently got a reply to a post that said I should not discuss my hubbys weaknesses in "public". Public meaning MyLot. I guess I never considered MyLot public. I know it is in terms of internet comminity, but my definition of punblic is somewhere where people know you and can put a face to the conversation. What about you? Do you conider posting here "public"?

Well it is a public forum, but it's mostly anonymous. Some people post pictures of their family, then it's a little bit more public. But even then, with 70,000+ members on here, the chances of someone you know coming across you is pretty slim.

It becomes personal if you give out names and personal information and make it public, but as it is we are just code names and even do not post actual pictures. It is a place to say what you think about something and at the same time hear what other people have to say about it too.

for me mylot is for public.
you can put your pictures in photo gallery.
but if you insist not to reveal your identity, then it is up to you, no one will force you to come out in the open.

I don't consider mylot a public thing either. The reason I joined mylot is because I'm boooorrrrreeeedddd....While my husband is working and my 2 children are in school, I'm left all alone in our house except for my little bunny. It will be everyone's prerogative if they wish to share something about their life or makeup a story. In my case, I needed to exercise my brain a little and mylot is a good place to start.

I think we all feel a small sense of anonymity here - after all , people only know us as a "handle" or an avatar - but, I am sure some people have referred their friends and neighbours to this site so in that sense i suppose it is a little bit "public" - however, if they are your friends and close neighbours, they probably know all anyway!

hey friend, you agree with you, i also dont think its like public, and never flet anything about discussing any personal issuses here. Infact what i feel is it is more comfortable to discuss all those personal issuse among those people whom we dont know personally , and never meet, rather discussing with people whom we knows any makea face to face communication, it makes difficult to be discussed maoing them, so mylot is good palteform to unclose things, best luck , and happy earning!!!

As soon as one person knows your id, it is public. They have access to every question and answer you have ever made. This is definitely a public forum.
I don't know how you could consider it otherwise.
Have you ever given a referral? That person knows who you are, therefore - anyone can find out.

I love mylot because it gives me a chance to discuss my problems without anyone knowing who I really am. People here are really helpful too and come up with such amazing suggestions that I know if I have a problem it will probably be solved right here on mylot.
It cannot be public because nooone knows who I am and even the friends I have on mylot, I have only met on mylot. This person is probably new. When I was new I thought twice about posting personal things but the problem you are having is often shared by many other people. Infact Ive seen many discussions about problems I am having too so its definitely not public.

I dont't thing posting it is mylot is 'public' becasue we don't know you personally and our contact is through internet only. And you are not divulging your personal infomation like name, dob and photos etc. Through information that you provide on discussions, some persons who know you personally may ony assume that it might be you and they may cannot take it for sure.

not at all!
i think that person just may have "certain" ideas about gender roles.
i think this is a great place to discuss marriage situations and possible problems.
sometimes it helps to get a different perspective on something. i asked a question on another answer site about a situation with my hubby b/c sometimes it's hard to see from all angles when we're involved. if i hadn't brought it out to that community, then i'd probably still be mad at my husband!!! :)
someone made me realize that i was trying to get him to do things my way and notletting him choose what was right for him. gosh, i'm such a control freak!! j/k!
anywho...
sometimes we have to read responses and let them roll off our backs. that is what i suggest you do in this situation.
take care!

If the whole world can read it, it's public.
If hundreds or thousands of people can sign up and read it, it's public.
The internet is not a private place, even behind a password.

I don't consider it public either as like you said no one knows who we are or anything about us really except for what we put up on here and even when we put something on here it doesn't give a whole lot away in the fact that the person could be explaining someone's else's story , making it all up or telling the truth , no one knows for sure .
