Cartoon Violence Pt. 2

I'm writing a second one b/c people have COMPLETELY missed my point in the first blog. My whole point was how and why parents and people are saying that cartoons nowadays are more violent then the cartoons they grew up with? Allow me to explain Tom and Jerry: Showed house hold items from hot irons, fire pokers, baseball bats, and anything that could be found around the house... being used to beat and massacre the cat and mouse. The cat was shown several time being mauled by a dog... only to come out in bandages a few seconds later and then have them instantly fall off and he was a-ok running around again. A mouse was smashed multiple times with a fire poker, shovel, beat with a hammer... all to only come out with a headache and a few stars around his head to show he was dizzy. Bugs Bunny and others: Showed a hunter out looking for a rabbit or duck... The hunter would shoot the duck IN THE FACE with a rifle... only to have the duck come out unharmed... a little singed and with his beak turned backwards at which point he turns it around and straightens it back on his face. Bugs Bunny was CROSS-DRESSING constantly and let's face it he made quite the nice looking female rabbit. Sylvester and Tweety... Tweety was always eaten by the cat only to be coguhed right back up as if nothing happened. The road runner and coyote. I recall the coyote using a lot of dynomite in those cartoons. The tasmanian devil constantly tried to eat the rabbit. Now compare it to cartoons nowadays... You have giant MYTHICAL robots going around stomping on things.... laser guns (that don't even exist) are being shot. A lot of this violence that I see in the cartoons nowadays isn't even possible. 1. b/c those items don't exist 2. they're not laying around the house. Once I have children I'd rather have them watch these "horrible" violent cartoons nowadays and have them play pretend as they stomp on their toys pretending to be a giant robot... than to have them watch Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry and go about finding household items to hit people and animals with. Now I'll ask again... and I hope people get my point this time. HOW can people possibley say that cartoons are more violent and dangerous now than they were back then?

Cartoons now are more realistic and aimed at a more adult audience. The cartoons you mentioned were "good fun" they were not taken seriously and no one tried to throw an Acme hammer at eachother back then. Its obvious from your post that you are not a parent nor do you have children in your life. It's your decision what you allow your children to watch but the cartoons now days are much more violent, because they are aimed at an older audience.

Soo... stuff like fosters home for imaginary friends? Pokemon? Fairly Odd Parents? (first off how are those even remotely realistic?) Kim Possible? These are the cartoons I watch and much more b/c it's my goal to one day make these cartoons... and I may not have kids yet but I was a kid and I remember quite a bit and my mom even attests to the type of cartoons I used to watch compared to what I watch now. Aside from The obvious of Simpsons and Family and the REALLY late night stuff on ADULT Swim on Cartoon Network... What cartoons are aimed for adults? I mean Dora the Explorer really doesnt seem that adult oriented to me. And can you tell me with full confidence that no child ever tried to shoot something in the face or throw a hammer at someone after seeing those cartoons? Seeing a cat get burned by a burning iron doesn't seem to be in "good fun" as you say so... However I see more good fun in fantasy giant robots fighting each other... why? B/c they don't exist and kids cant go easily find one in the house and cause serious mayhem.

ALL programs now have TV ratings and show what age range each show is targeted for. the Adult cartoons i'm asuming you're talking about are Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad...along thsoe lines. YEAH of course those are meant for adults. parents should use good judgment, but c'mon...I LOVE FOSTERS and i haven't seen Kim Possible in a while, but the movie was pretty kick a**, those shows are normally meant for 7yrs plus, but at parents discresion younger children can watch it. from what i've seen MOST cartoons meant for children, and young teens DO have a GOOD message in it which was a lot more the Looney Toons. but all parents do have a say, i'm not saying let your kids watch whatever...i'm saying parents should just STOP complaining about it. if you don't want your kids to watch it...dont' let them watch...simple right?

MAN HAHA, i'm on your side. i totally agree. peope today don't remember what we grew up with. ALTHOUGH i do let my children watch tom and jerry becaused i'm amazed that they really love it. some parents are really just a little too anal sometimes about these things. and i'm a parent myself. i have 2 little boys who watch cartoon network almost all day, as long as I know what they're watching and i sit down and watch it with them i have no real problem against this. thats the fault in some parents. talk with your kids. they will eventually see how the world is and the more they inderstand some things the better. my know at 4 knows that there are some things done on TV that shouldn't be done and they aren't nice. he knows that there are some words that are said on his cartoons that are mean and shouldn't be said. AND HE'S ONLY 4 and he knows that. thats because when i head the word of "dork" he thought it was funny at first and started saying it. but then i told him its not a nice word and its mean and it makes fun of other people and he shouldn't say it. now everytime he hears that word he says "____'s not nice, they shouldn't say that" c'mon, be a parent and stop complaining about the media.

See I think that's fantastic... you allow them to watch the cartoons WHILE parenting at the same time... I've seen a lot of parents sit their kids in front of the tv not do anything with them or talk to them to explain the differences of cartoon world and the real world and then complain how violent these shows are. I used to watch Tom and Jerry when I was little to and never went about trying to hit animals with fire pokers... I'm not gonna lie I thought about it lol, but my mom always did a good job of explaining what was right and wrong to me. It just amazed me to watch these old cartoons later on and be like "How are the cartoons today so violent compared to this?!"
