My son has been in the U.S. Army for over six years. As a mom, I feel pulled apart. I am so very proud of my son's decision to serve our country but after six years, I am so ready for him to come home. He is currently in Iraq again, second tour of duty.
He enjoys the military lifestyle. And he is learning a lot. He has been able to travel the world and meet many people.
I just hope he will be discharged soon. I miss him.

My daughter is in the Army and will retire next year. I know how hard it is on families when somebody is gone, as we haven't seen our daughter in a long time. She has been in other countries and remarks on how lucky we all are to have a home, with plenty of food and water, as she has seen many people that don't have a home and are starving.

High Five, mom. Where is she currently stationed? If you send me her APO address in a private message, I will see that my Girl Scout troop send her some cookies in March.

I do not have any children in the millitary, I don't think that is something that my boys woudl be interested in. I would accept thier decision if they choose to join the armed forces, even though I would miss them severly while they were away.

I originally wrote this article 3 years ago. Since then, my son has completed a second tour of duty in Iraq and been discharged from service. He now works for a helicopter company. He bought his first house and is very happy.
One of my daughters has also considered the opportunity to serve. She went to one the military bases and took a tour. She talked with officers. We have also had an officer come to our home to talk to her and her friends about the Service. I don't think she will go into the military. But she might serve her community in other ways such as being a nurse.
I do miss my children when they are away for long periods of time. It is hard to accept their decisions sometimes.

We have been able to stay in touch with our son by way of the internet. So far, he has had internet service every where that he has been including Iraq. Amazing. I am glad that you and your son are reconnecting.
