What lotions or methods works best for reducing and preventing stretch marks? I'm currently using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula labeled specifically for stretch marks but it doesn't seem to be doing much along the lines of prevention. Thanks!

As mentioned by some other readers, you can't really prevent stretch marks or get rid of it when they appear. It has to do with your skin quality. Some people are lucky, they have more elastic skin and not prone to stretch marks like my mom. However, I was not as fortunate as I did not inherit that. I have horrid stretch marks like zebra lines all across my under belly and thighs as well. Although they were darker and more purple, I did notice they have turned to silvery lines and less obvious now, abt 2 years down the road. Some people fine cocoa butter or vitamin E oil effective. I find that there is no harm trying since it might work for you. It did not work for me. My first pregnancy, I used a home-made formula made by my mother in-law. A mixture of sesame oil, linseed oil and some other essential oils. It did not prevent the marks. My second pregnancy, I used a combination of cocoa butter and vitamin E. Well, it did not work either as more lines appeared. Maybe it's also because of the amount of weight I put on and quite rapidly as well. That could be a major factor. Anyway, all the best. I hope you find something that can help... but even if you do have it, maybe you should be proud of it. Proof of your motherhood... which is something fantastic... short of a miracle.

The bad thing is that nothing prevents strech marks. I also used Palmer's Cocoa Butter and I do believe that if you use lotion everyday on them it will help them fade or go away after you give birth. I know that vitamin E oil is suppose to help scars dissapear so you may want to try that.

True stretchmarks are gonna come, if they come. Depends on how much your skin needs to stretch and how much elasticity your body has. I was lucky and only had a few, and you could barely see them.

It is believed that smearing the area with egg white and letting it dry before washing off with ice cold water regularly can help in getting rid of stretch marks completely.

My doctor told me that I could use creams and lotions to make myself feel better but that she doesn't really believe that they determine whether you get stretch marks or not, she said some women use nothing and get none and others spend bunches of money use them multiple times daily and will still get a ton of them. I was lucky and got none, I thought that may be I wouldn't because my mom doesn't have any. However, I used baby oil gel- It really helps saturate the belly, the only thing I don't like is that it's greasy and would get on my clothes if I didn't let it soak in long enough.

I found Lush's Therapy massage bar helped a lot! It's a solid cocoa butter bar with lavender and neroil oils. It smells lovely and feel wonderfaul on your skin. I used it all through my pregnancy except for one week when it was so hot I couldn't bear any lotions at all. During that week some stretch marks appeared! I found it wonderful and relaxing to use, and I am convinced it helped prevent marks.

The best thing for stretchmarks is raw shea butter. The key word is raw. Don't get the crap they sell in the stores that's been processed in some factory by people who know nothing about it's true ability. If you are interested in raw shea butter just search it, or leave me a message and I will get the site for you where I order mine. It's only $7, it doesn't expire, and it has so many other important uses. It lasts a long time also. You're gonna pay probably about $8 for the manufacutred stuff and have to rebuy in a few weeks, whereas with the raw, it could be months or a year before you need to buy more. It's 100% natural and can also be used for diaper rash.

cocoa butter and vitamin E might help but it never does for me. I heard scrubbing your skin every shower with a nail brush or luffa forabout 5 mins stimulates the skin or something and gets rid of stretch marks...you can try that!

To prevent stretch marks, avoid scratching it as much as possible. To reduce them, you can use coconut oil- natural coconut oil is prefered.

Staying hydrated, over hydrating is a push in the right direction. Although nothing can prevent them, you can help them heal faster, vitamin E capsuls broke open and applied to the streach marks can fade them faster. I put lotion on every night to help my skin stay moist and pliable. And hope i dont get any more :)
