We should not be afraid of God as when we are terrified because God will do something bad to us. But of course, God will punish us if we do wrong. We should do good works to avoid the wrath of God.
"The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil, pride, arrogance, the way of evil, and perverted speech..." (Proverbs 8:13).
This is how we should be afraid of God - we should not delight in doing evil, we should not be proud or boastful because we have nothing to boast about because we are just like grasshoppers on earth as far as God is concerned if we do evil but He loves us so much if we do things in accordance with His will. We should not be arrogant and we should stay away from the way of evil. We should also be careful with out speech - no bad word should ever come out of our mouth because that is considered as our fruit as our words comes out of our mouth.

Exodus 20:20 says:
"Be cheerful, for God arrived to you to test you in order that the fear of Him comes in you, in order that you shall not commit sin."
This shows that we should be afraid of God in doing bad, but if we do good, there's nothing to fear. God will even give to us rewards.

God does love us but He punishes those that go against him. Be good and you'll be blessed, be bad and you'll be corrected. God is our father. He is just like our parents. We are scared of being punished by them and that's why we avoid doing bad things.

i agree. we fear him in the same way that he is our father and we don't want punishment for our wrongs.
if you are saved and know and love the lord, then you will do what you can to not ever upset him. Even if you do slip up and sin-- we all do--- he is forgiving. But using the father/child analogy, no kid wants to disappoint their parents.
what a person should really fear is NOT be saved. The only punishment god gives and letting the devil have you. :P

The fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge. so it goes, yes God loves us and cares for us, he gave us this life and many more......so when ever fear comes, its to note that we have to fear God when doing something wrong! only then we have to faer, because that could hurt our creator, it could hurt us or even others! all god wants us to do is keep his commandments, and thats not just for his sake! thats for our own good, i mean he is not asking us not to marry, not to watch tv and all those things, he is a happy God, but if we indulge in something sinful, we gott a face those consequences ourselves.so here, he is just trying to lay down few tips for us to do as to not get into trouble...so we gott afear, while doing wrong......if we do something wrong, and we fear that it should not come out in public, so isnt that a fear?? so i wante dto say that, whatever we do, just stay in his tips and follow the guidelines, just as when we buy a new thing, we just go through all the instructions, if not, we can spoil our own thing bought, so just follow the instruction, just to have the ultimate true life.

God loves us and we should not be afraid of Him. But like our father in flesh, He would punish us if we do not follow Him. That is where we should fear God, when we do not obey Him. But as long as we obey Him, He would not at all punish us and we should not be afraid of Him.

God is a very loving father, he has set certain rules for us it i sour duty to obey him if we do not obey him we fall in trouble, God knows about it first only, God is very loving and kind but he cannot stand evil, he punishes us if we do wrong, so we have to fear him in that way that is if we are going to do wrong things then we will be punished as he is a long suffering God but after bearing for long time with us if we don't ask for forgiveness and turn back from our sins than he punishes us. So that's why we have to be afraid of God even after we die he can put us in hell where we will have to remain if we do not follow his commandments.

we should be afraid of god only if we are doing some wrong. When we are young we all fear our parents as well ,because they can be strict at timees, but it all because they love us and want the best for us.Similarly Got should be loved and respected, and u'll fear him only if ur upto some mischief because then he'll have his plas to teach us the right way...God bless u...

This is just my view on it, so here goes.
For one thing, fear can mean literal fear; being scared. Why? God has the power to determine where someone spends eternity, and is in complete control of the universe. If you are doing something to anger him, it would be pretty natural to be afraid. But also fear can mean to respect, in a certain way it is translated, not always meaning to literally be afraid of but to highly respect. There is more i've heard/read on it, but I can't recall all of it right now.

No God will not tell the spirits around us to punish us. When I bible says to fear God that means have a respectful Him for who He is. I don't think I'm explainly this well.
If you are living close to God and you truely have a personal relationship with Him their is nothing to fear.
The fear that KIng James uses means differently that what we know fear as. Look us the word fear in the greek and hebrew and that will give you the true meaning.
Remeber back in the King James time they language and meaning were a lot different than ours. God will not tell the spirits to punish you.
When you get out of Gods will, He will give you a time to repent. If you don't then He will remove His protection from you. Then the enemy satan can have his way with you, until you come back to God.

No no we should not afraid him at all. Why we should afraid him? He love us so much and loving means spoling someone. If this is your defination of love then you should not afraid at all. I request you not to fear ok?
